well the title says it all.
I want a silky saw, but don't know which one to get.
super accel 210?
pocketboy 170?
gomboy 210?
on the silkystore site, it shows that the pocketboy has more applications than the super accel. but I can't understand why.
can you guys help me?

I have one of those Gerber saws that slide into the handle. Works fine and is light, but not real heavy duty. I bought a Gomboy 210 because I wanted a little longer blade (8.27"). That is a big saw. Very heavy duty. I have never held a Pocketboy 170 (6.7" blade). It may be better for lightweight packing as is more compact and 2 ounces lighter.

first you need to determine what your going to be cutting most often. If its softwoods (cedars, firs, pines etc) you need a saw with large teeth (fewer teeth per inch. If your cutting mostly hardwoods (oaks, maples etc) you need a finer toothed saw.

I have a Pocketboy 130 and a Pocketboy 170. I really like them both.
The decisions you need to make are:
How big a piece of wood do I need to saw?
How important is light weight vs. long blade?
What kind of wood am I going to be cutting?

On the type of wood;
Silky makes blades with different teeth size.
If you are cutting soft woods or green wood you can cut fastest with extra large teeth.
If you are cutting really hard wood you want medium teeth.
The compromise is large teeth. This is what I have on my Silky's.

Hope his helps.

I have a Gomboy 240. Bigger then a 210 but my pack doesn't notice the difference.
It's a great saw.

I'm not sure why the pocket boy has more apps. then the super accel.
Kinda strange.

I can only speak for the Gomboy. I don't think you could go wrong with
any of them.

I have had my Pocketboy 130 with large teeth for a month or so now. It performs very well, removes a lot of material very fast. As others have said it depends on what you are cutting with it. I feel the blade is big enough to handle some survival chores, you can bring down some good size branches for shelter making while at the same time it folds up quite compact and stores easily.

I managed to break the tip off mine last weekend on an outing, no biggie though.

How is that hard chrome working? Does it protects the blade against rust? They look solid!

They work fantastic. I keep a Pocketboy 130 in my pack and use a Gomboy 210 around the house. I also use 3 different Gomboys and 2 Woodboys for work and in my Wood shop. The large teeth are great for outdoors and the finish on these stand up good in the weather conditions I've experienced. I use the medium for roughing in lumber and the Fine for furniture and trim work.

I can't see why any of them would have any more applications than another. I think they are all the same basic design. The size and material are different. The PB and GomBoy both have a steel frame while the SUPER ACCEL is aluminum. The GomBoy and SUPER ACCEL both have a thicker blade than the PB. I don't think that the PB blade is too thin but I snapped about an inch off my PB because I was in a hurry and let a tree bind the blade. Maybe a thicker blade would have survived intact. The now shorter PB blade still works fine by the way. The PB and SUPER ACCEL are the same weight but the GomBoy is heavier. I don't think the SUPER ACCEL comes with a plastic carrying case like the other two. I never use mine anyway. I think the bigger ones will be more capable without being to cumbersome. However I keep mine in a small shoulder bag normally and my PB 170 fits perfectly. I don't think the 210s would fit. The PB 170 fits nice in pants pockets too.

My opinion is that any one of them would be a great saw. If the extra inch and a half or so still fits for you then I would get one of the bigger ones. The GomBoy looks like it is a little more than an ounce and a half heavier than the SUPER ACCEL but the frame is steel rather than aluminum.

TIP: for bind free cutting, liberally spray the blade with silicone lubricant prior to cutting. Prevent rust on carbon blades too.

wow, thanks so much for all the info guys.
I will try to check them personally and then decide which one to get, it's hard to decide just by checking the description on the website. but after everything you guys told me, it seems anyone of them will perform pretty good (but I like the looks of the super accel)
thanks a lot!

Which is better for basic wood bumming and some bushcraft. A curved saw or the straight saw?? I have a corona curved saw which still works good but were intrested in the straight saw as well.

I like the Super Accel 210 best. I prefer the aluminum frame to the steel (feels just as strong and it's lighter). The SA 210 blade is thicker than my friend's PB 170 and doesn't flex nearly as much. The extra length is really helpful to me.

I have both the regular and large tooth blades for the 210. The large tooth blade works fine, even on hard, dry wood from fruit trees. I'm reserving the smaller tooth blade for bone saw use on game.

hey DWK2 you read my mind with your post.
I was about to ask about the large tooth or small tooth thing.
If the large ones work for hardwood too then we got a winner!
thanks a lot for all that replied to my thread!
that's why I love W&SS

My late aunt's house had dead and dry pomegranate, persimmon, and lemon trees in the back yard. I used the Silky Zubat 330mm large tooth and the large-toothed Super Accel 210 on them without a problem. When I spoke with Matt at the Silky Store, he told me that the SA 210 is their largest selling folder. www.knife-depot.com also sells them (in fact, I think they are drop shipped directly from Silky).

Have fun!
