Hi I was currently looking at a sword and I was wondering how much it would be worth but I have no Idea. Its probably the same one Bimmer was talking about a few posts back from Sky Castles, here are the specs that the seller lists.

This is a Japanese-styled Katana, made by Sky Castles of Shawnee, Kansas. As with all of their swords, the blade is made of 1075 Carbon Steel, differentially hardened (the edge of the blade is much harder than the middle and spine), and tempered to a stiff spring temper. These blades are meant to be used, not just hung on the wall for decoration (although they are plenty attractive to serve that purpose as well!). The edge is not "scary" sharp, but is a coarser and more servicable edge. Again, these swords are meant to be used! The grip is wrapped with cord, for a secure non-slip hold. The Tsuba or guard, is octagon shaped, and made of mild steel. The blade measures 28 inches long, and is 1.18 inches wide and the hilt, and .875 inches wide just before the point begins. The overall length is 38.5 inches. This pieces does not have a sheath or scabbard.

Here is a link to the picture, the seller probably wants around $175.00 please help me determine if its worth it. Jamez@raverworld.com | Jamez@Bond.tc any help would be greatly apprecieated and thanks for your time ;)

Yes its a Sky Castle sword or possible a Highland Steele sword (The guys from Highland Steele were trained by Shane Madden and his blade grinders from Sky Castle). Sky Castle Armory recently changed hands so they may have changed some things. I've been told that the guys from Highland Steele died in a car wreck late last year, so unfortunately don't expect any warrantee.

I've handled both many times. They are generally heavy, and some what unbalanced. Basically they are pretty sharpened crowbars. If you want something to beat on just about anything, they will work. IMHO $170 is alot to spend on a crowbar no matter how pretty.
Sky Castle has a lifetime guarantee, but they take their time getting you a replacement, and it may not be the same style or size when you do get one.

If you want a nice well balanced katana check out http://swordforum.com for ideas. It all depends on how tradional you want the sword. Jerry Hossom, Kevin Cashen, as well as a number of other people do some incredible tactical swords.
