the liner is just barely engaging the tang when it is opened and when opposite pressure is put on the blade the liner "slides" down and closes the knife. The lock security is compromised. anyone have any reccomendations before i send it back?

If the liner is in the first part of the tang (not the last part) try doing 50-75 hard wave openings. My Commander had a lock that engaged the first 1/3 of the tang. I did about 50 waveopenings and the liner settled just in the middle of the tang. It doesn´t move anywhere from there. Everything works great. No lock failure whatsoever.

Is there a fix if the lock engages the last 1/3 - 1/4 of the tang??? That's the dilemna I'm facing with my Commander. When I first got it, it engaged smack dab in the middle; but after 50 of so wave openings, it now engages almost to the farthest end of the tang?

I don't know if this will work for you or not, but I took mine apart for a good cleaning, and tried to bend the locking section of the liner inward a bit more. When I got it all back together, it seemed to be more secure. If all else fails, give EKI a call and see what they can do. I've never had to have a repair done by them yet, but the people I've heard from who have say they are top notch. I seem to remember one guy on the forums mentioning that he asked them what size the screws for the scales were, and they sent him a bag for free. (Maybe they charged shipping, but hey.......pretty good service if you ask me.)

Hope this helps

Yes, the service if you ever need any help with your knife is first rate over at EKI. I had a stop pin failure (bad batch). Emailed Derek at EKI and he sent me two new ones at no cost. Nice huh? Remember that I live in Sweden (northern europe), even so Derek didn´t hesitate to send me the parts. That´s what I call service. :)

I wouldn´t hesitate to contact them if I ever had a problem again.
