Gunner,

Tandy Leather offers a series of books entitled "The Art of Making Leather Cases" by Al Stohlman. Volume one of that series has patterns and instructions for making folding knife and fixed blade sheaths. You can find Tandy on the web.

Uh oh, Gunner. Bad move! You should have learned from my mistakes! I sense another closing thread. BTW, is there a prize for the most number of closed threads in one day? I think I might be the leader in this field. Anyway, Gunner, if I had some leather I would help you out, but I don't. The Tandy website is very helpful, and most of the fixed blade "how to" books will have instructions, too. I haven't played with leather at all, but if it is anything like Kydex, then you'll need more than you think before you start producing sheaths that are worth carrying.

There is a book titled "how to make knives" written by Barney and Loveless, that has two excellent chapters on sheath making.

Chiro75,
I dont understand why this was a bad move for gunner to post this, he is just trying to learn something???

Sharing of info on how to create sharp objects is one of the main purposes of this forum. Might want to try the "Shop Talk" forum for this sort of thing too.

We have the "Exchange" section for dealing in tangible goods for cash or barter. I'm not sure if there is a good section for personality conflicts. Nothing wrong with this thread.

I have to agree with chiro.The way it has been around here lately you might get labeled as a panhandler just for asking for some free advice.Rock on gunner and chiro!!

Gunner, Try this site, seems to have some info that might help in the sheath making dept. but nothing beats practice, one tip I can give you, start with a bigger piece of leather than you need, when you glue the welts and seams together leave a wider area to begin with, that way when you punch through with your awl you won't move the leather, it'll be seated by the wider area glued, I'm only talking about 1/2" or so, after you stitch it up, trim it off and belt sand it down smooth.

But take a peek at this site anyway;
