I am wanting to get my boyfriend a knife for his collection...but i don't know where to start. I'm going to look today...but I don't know good from bad. Can anyone give me some really good suggestions on what to get him? Thanks

Hey there, don't panic! I'm sure there are plenty of people here willing to help you out.

It WOULD help if you gave us some details. For example, the most important: what's your budget? I mean, there are so many quality knives out there...for a Chris Reeve Sebenza going for $300+, to several others from fine companies like Spyderco, Benchmade, Microtech, Buck, that go for lower yet have great quality. If you give us a price range, we could help you better.

Also, what length do you envision? Might be a large knife, like something around a 4" blade, or smaller, which would be around 2", or of course mid-size around 3"...

Also, is your boyfriend a knife-nut?(e.g. spends a lot or most of his salary in knives). If he possesses many, then you have to be a little more careful and discriminating in what you get him.

Hey, I'm sure there are plenty of people which could provide you with links and pics, but we really need more information so we can help you make a good purchasing decision.

As for me, without knowing anything about your preferences or your boyfriend's I vote for my favorite, the Spyderco Native. You can get this knife at an extremely reasonable price ($43 at discountknives.com, the knife will arrive in 3-7 days), and is a mid-size (3" blade), plus it's a great all-around knife.

Good luck on your purchase. I'm sure your boyfriend (BF???) will be very happy with his gift.

Just hope he doesn't become a knife-nut like us, because he will end up spending more money on knives than on anything else! (including gf's!!!)

You have to be more specific frogy227. What type of knives does he collect? Fixed blades, folders, daggers.... And than again, what price range? You can buy a good knife for let´s say 45 bucks but you can also buy one for 450. It all depends on how far you are willing to go according to quality and attention to details

Froggy,
Don't let silly things like price tags get between your pocketbook and true love. I have only one suggestion.....Crawford Kasper Fighting Folder with Damascus blade and Mammoth Ivory scales framed by Blue Titanium bolsers.

well guys...thanks for your replys. this is what i wound up getting...it's called "the jackel"...it's a "hibbin knife". anyway...tell me how that sounds. It's tough for a girl like me to understand this kind of fascination! thanks!

Welcome to the forums!

Have you bought the knife already? What you should get him really depends on what kind of collector your boyfriend is... IMNSHO the suggested Spyderco Native (wonderful knife, btw) would be much more practical if you want to get him a knife to use, but the UC Hibben Jackal will most likely get more "hey, cool" comments on the mantle..

Whatever you end up getting, I'm sure he'll appreciate it.

Hibben Knives make very interesting nice wall hangers and collection pieces for display. I wouldn't use it for working usage though.

Chang,

That applies to the United Cutlery produced line of Hibben's designs. Real Hibbens knives are expensive ($1000 +++) and impressive pieces of art.

Oops. I meant the UC Hibbens.

The custom Hibbens are very very nice.

What kinds of knives does he have in his collection? Any names? If we knew what he collected then we could give you a good suggestion
