I was trying to sharpen my bilton, and i only seem to be making it duller, does anyone here sharpen kuks for a fee? i need two kuks sharpenend, a 5 inch bilton, and 8 inch bonecutter.

richard j is the man for the job.

i want to help yangdu out with the medical fund by giving yangdu the money for sharpening khuks or any other knife sold by yangdu. anyone sending me something for sharpening can include my fee (plus any extra they want to send to yangdu) and i will send it on to her.

I offer professional knife sharpening 40 years of experience, 22 with the paper wheels. $1. per inch for a v edge, $2 for a convex. I sharpen all edges & "Ti" knives, serrations. plus i do regrinds. Check out my website.http://sites.google.com/site/richardjsknives/Home

Yep, I have heard great things about his sharpening abilities by a number of folks I would trust to know. And the deal he is offering is staggeringly generous as well as reasonable priced compared with other sharpening folks in that talent range. A win for HI kamis and for the folks who need sharpening services.

I plan on sending several knives to richard when I get the chance too!

I think that's the hard part for all of them. I hope to pick up another IBBB so I still have one while one is away.

I'd really like to be able to put a good edge on it myself, sometimes I'm ok, usually not so much. I used to be able too back in the day but whatever I did back then doesn't seem to be around anymore.

I feel pretty comfortable I can put an edge on that Katana id be fairly happy with but im still working with minimal sharpening supplies. Im pretty much dedicated to convex edges now except for one Japanese waterstone which i can get a good hair poppin edge to 8000 grit. I just like the idea of paper wheel sharp on that Katana. Im not professional by any means when it comes to sharpening although i have no problem with my skills on 95% of my blades. This is one of those 5% cases where ill leave it to the pros...for now....maybe:rolleyes: Now that Giant Chitlangi is another story! It came scary sharp and havent even needed to touch it (like I use it all the time:rolleyes:). Since it is a villager I dont mind touching it up if needed.

I sent a email to richard J, and spoke to Mrs. Yangdu about having a custom 12 inch 18oz KLVUK with 5/16 spine for hardwood use here in NC that is backpackable, since the sheath doesnt like weather, and we get tons of rain.

spoke to richard J, sounds like a very knowledgeable man. he is in recovery mode from health problems, and not taking orders atm.. That being said, he did take the time to explain how, what i need to do to sharpen my kuks.
i'm gonna try it on a cheap-er kuk that i have. a condor heavy duty kuk. 10 inch blade 5/16 inch spine and 1075 HC steel that is diff tempered. should tell me if my technique is any good.

Wow, Sad to hear about Richard J's health. I am glad that he was able to provide you with some good info about doing the sharpening. Let us know how it goes, hopefully it will be a great success.

Richard is one of the most helpful guys around. Can't say enough good things about him.
