I found a Camillus Titanium 440 Fixed blade Hunting knife in my basement with its sheath and I've been up all night trying to figure out how old it is. It's got no tang stamp that would indicate when it was made. Handle is a bit weathered from being down there but the blade is still really sharp and the sheath is in great condition. How would you determine when the knife was created if it doesn't have a tang stamp? All it has is the Camillus Titanium logo on it and on the Sheath. I am utterly confused and don't want to take it in to get carbon dated. I need to know it's age so I can go get an estimate on its worth. I plan to open carry it because it meets my state's sheath knife requirements. The blade is 4.5" in length. Handle is a good 4.9" and is made of a darkened cream colored rubber. Any idea on how to identify its age without the tang stamp that doesn't involve carbon dating the rubber handle?

Carbon dating is not accurate enough to date the handle.

Pretty sure that "Camillus Titanium" is a recent model. The US company, "Camillus Cutlery" went bankrupt in 2007. A holding company owns the name now and knives with that name are currently made in China.

Try Googling the phrase
camillus titanium knife

See if that does not bring up something relevant.

And here is how to post pictures:
As a registered user, you can post pictures using a picture hosting site. Once you have uploaded a picture to the hosting site, copy the web address of the picture. Note: picture web addresses must end in .jpg or .gif

Then go to your post and click the image tool on the toolbar next to the smiley tool. Click the link icon in the popup. (Looks like a chain.) Paste the picture address into the window. Then click the INSERT button.

Welcome to Bladeforums Corey Gaskin.

Camillus had an extensive line of "Titanium" knives. The blades were made using a variety of steels (yours is 440 steel) coated with carbonitride titanium. The rubber handled models were not expensive knives. More like "economy" knives.

Looking at Camillus catalogs available online, the Titanium line does not appear in any catalogs from 2006 or older. So your knife was made sometime after 2006. Unfortunately there is a large gap in the available catalogs (2007-2019), so I cannot narrow the year down anymore. The Titanium line still existed in 2020, but I didn't see any in the 2020 catalog that match the description of your knife.

My advice, use the knife and don't worry about it's value. If you go to Ebay and do a search for "Camillus Titanium fixed blade rubber handle" you might see similar or identical models and you can see how inexpensive they are.

Why do you need to know it's age or value if your intent is to carry/use it?
If your concern is that it is highly valuable, and that would dissuade you from your plan, fear not.
