I think I may have screwed up the angel on my Esee 5, I recently bought the standard Lansky 3 hone sharpening system off amazon and started to sharpen my blade I stared by using the course hone at a 30 degree angle and this was before I learned the Esee knives are at a 20 degree angle now it looks like I have 2 different angles on the blade please help I need some advice and i must let you know that I completely suck at free hand sharpening.

here are a few pictures of the blade any advice on how to fix this or what angel to use with the lansky.

Well if you just set the Lansky to 20 a side you'll be able to get it sharp, but it will still look the same way for a whlie until you thicken the new bevel out entirely.

Also with the Lansky you've got to make sure that you get the clamp set on the blade the same way each time you sharpen, or it will change the angle slightly and you'll keep having this issue.

Pick one and work it until the whole blade is at that angle. When using your Lansky, use a marker pen to see what is happening to your blade before damage or a change of existing angle is made. I would use a 30* inclusive angle on the Esee 5, or in other words, 15* per side, which would be the 17* slot on your Lansky. (close enough when blade is clamped as the blade sticks out from the edge of the clamp enough to make it about 15*) If you are hard on your knife, then maybe use a 40* inclusive angle, or the 20* slot on the device.

Blessings,

Omar

Thank you for the advice guys, I am pretty tough on the blade, as it sits now it is still hair shaving sharp so I think I'll wear it down a bit more and then go with the 20* slot.

Any idea on what slot to use on the Izula 2 ?
