I know, I know. Everybody has preferences and different situations call for different needs. BUT, that being said, am I crazy?
I live in the PNW, and I just bought an Autine axe. I am also waiting on a Fehrman Peacemaker. As I daydream about the arrival of these two tools, I have come to a sort of realization that both of these are fulfilling the same roll. Each of them can chop(baton) and each of them can whittle. The axe is better suited to heavier duty splitting and the knife for anything and everything else. But as with everything you can make do with one or the other.
I am so excited about this new axe that I feel obliged to cancel the Fehrman. For food prep, my Multi-tool does just fine, and with a top notch axe such as the Autine, I can use it for food prep as well!
My inner minimalist screams against the thought of me having two tools doing the same job when that money could be better spent elsewhere.
Another thought to think about is with such a versatile tool such as an axe, would you feel comfortable going out for a 5 day adventure without a fixed blade? What about a survival situation as your "one tool"?
Thanks,
H
