OK, So it's finals week and I've done very well academically for my last set of tests and papers... and my bills were less then usual... so you all know what that means! Time to buy a new knife!!!!! YAY!!!!

Anyway, even though I have extra money, I still don't have much. I'm not even going to give a figure since I'm blowing money and don't want to think about it because it's too much fun to do this shopping.

Back on topic, I can get a Benchmade Auto-Benchmite, one of the rainbow-anodized limited edition (of 500), which is really, really cool, or I could get a Benchmade Juju, which is an awesome FB designed by one of my favorite makers whose original knives I could never afford, even if he was still taking orders.

Pros of the Auto-Benchmite: It's a killer deal at the price I would pay, it's a limited-edition, and it's an automatic, which is just nifty, plus since I'm mentally deficient, I'm easily distracted by the pretty colors.

Cons of the Auto-Benchmite: It's a bit small. In fact. It's very small. And I would probably not do much more with it besides take it out and fondle it, although that's not necessarily a negative. It's also an automatic... which may or may not be strictly legal for me to own... which frankly doesn't bother me, but it is a con. Also, it's twice the price I would pay for the Juju.

Pros of the Juju: It's a Snody design. 'nuff said. It's a Japanese cord-wrapped knife, which I adore, with a great and functional design, and it's cheaper. I'm getting about as good a deal on the Juju as I would on the Auto-Benchmite, btw.

Cons of the Juju: It's not a limited edition, it's a biggish FB (9.5" give or take) for someone like me who prefers small FBs or folders usually.

Of course, the Juju would also allow me to maybe blow money on TWO knives...

And I'm not limited to these two knives, I just like them a lot.

So yeah. I'm confused, and I hate making these decisions on my own. I know you all love to scream suggestions about new knives, and I know that doing so is great fun for all, so let the suggestions begin!

Edit: Also looking at a M2HS BM 710 and a Fallkniven G1
Edit: A good tactical light would also be considered.
Edit: Can you tell I'm excited out of my mind?

I was just here. I wanted a small folder, and couldn't decide. I got a fairly rare old Spyderco Mouse just yesterday instead. It'll be here soon :).

The Benchmite is really nice. But check your laws, you don't want it getting taken away. Though with a knife that small you're probably ok.

I would go with the Benchmite. I almost did myself. No clip which stinks, but fun for hours wherever you go.

If you like small FBs you should check out Gene Ingram. His latest knife, the pocket hippo, is AMAZING! His site (click on his name to get a link to his site) has several other small guys that are really cool and reasonably priced in the 80-150$ range.

What is it you want this knife for? That can help you decide lots of times, but people do usually underestimate the value of being able to have fun with it when you're bored...My roomate's got an "assisted opening" rainbow Chive from Kershaw (Benchmite's WAY better), it's great fun.

I'm not a big Snody fan, but hey that's me. There are lots of affordable FBs out there...check out the knife-maker's for-sale forums, you might find a lot of stuff you like.

P.S. I'm just about done with school too (senior year), can't wait for my new toy. After that I'm making my own knife, very excited. :D

OK, I'm thinking that I'm going to buy both the Juju and the Benchmite... which is a lot of money to blow on a couple knives for me, but I think it would be worth it... which I may later regret, but I doubt it... much.

Now, next question. Should I spring for the limited-edition Auto-Benchmite, or should I just get the normal one? Since I'm getting the Juju and the Benchmite, getting the normal Benchmite would save me about $15. But the limited edition one is a lot prettier and its resale value is better, too.

Oh, and as for purpose of the knife, I'm not really buying for purpose right now, I'm buying to reward myself. Like Pavlov's dogs. The Benchmite would probably never see any real use, I'd keep it around because of collector value and because it's pretty and automatics are fun. The Juju would see EDC use clipped inside my shoulder bag or backpack. You know. For when the SAK just doesn't cut it...
:D

<--- proud owner of zero SAKs. If I can't get it done with a keychain multitool and my main EDC then I'll...throw my shoe at it or something.

I prefer the blue of the regular Benchmite, but the auto is only offered in rainbow and black IIRC. I'd go for the black. Collecting knives, IMO, is stupid. Use them! Even if you have oodles of money, make it like a knife for every day of the month or something, right?

I use all my stuff whenever I can. Drives me crazy just sitting there.

Carry the benchmite in your pocket, then the JuJu for extra heavy duty stuff. You'd be surprised how often you'll use a knife if it's right there.
(That's why I don't have a SAK...I don't like stuff loose in a pocket, and rarely wear a belt to clip a sheath to. It's keychain stuff and a big knife w/ a pocket clip for me all the way)

I think I'm entitled to have at least one collector's knife. :D

BTW, you're slightly incorrect. There are three versions of the Auto-Benchmite, one of them is rainbow anodized, one is glossy black, and both of those are 500 piece limited edition runs, while there's a normal stainless steel one, too. I was leaning towards the rainbow anodized one because in addition to being small, it's colorful and looks harmless.

Go with the JuJu and a Streamlight Nightfighter 2 in LED and a couple Marlboro "buy 2 get 1 free" offers... just what I would do :D

You're still allowed to smoke in California? :p

The 3100 Benchmite auto is a great little knife. Or toy, as might be the case for you. I have a 3100-401 myself. Smallest "real" knife I own (not including keychain SAKS) and definitely the cutest. Even here in Arizona, I get wide-eyed gasps when I whip out an auto (although I'll grant that a Severtech or MT Scarab is rather an attention getter), but "Cool" and "Cute" are the only words people use when they see the Benchmite. The rainbow anodization certainly helps in this. If it weren't legal though, I wouldn't carry an auto, even one so cute as the 3100-401.

As I said in another post about the 3100, it's a great knife despite the small size. 154CM is rare in a knife this small, and BM"s is the best. The thin, flat ground blade slices like mad. There's no clip, but it's so thin that you can slip it in the change pocket of your jeans and forget it's even there. Don't forget though, and send it through the laundry.

BTW, there is a 310-401. Looks almost the same (it has a nail nick), but it's not as cool as the auto, but at least you could legally carry it.

Bought the Auto-Benchmite, but I'm going to wait on the Juju. Might pick up something else if there's any good suggestions.

My Auto-Benchmite is the rainbow anodized one. It's pretty cool. I'll use it, too, but it will be my pretty knife as opposed to my butt fugly Spydercos.

Do you have a budget set up for knives? Do you have extreme credit card debt? If you just use your credit card for small purchases, I would pay cash for one, either the Benchmite or Juju, and put the other on the card. Only do this if you can pay off the other knife over the next two months or so. If you do this once in a blue moon, I think it'll be okay. Don't let it be an everyday occurrence. I don't know anything about either knife. If you have only want to use cash, put it in a lockbox, or a savings account, whatever. Buy the cheaper knife, and let the money left over be your knife budget. Put a little bit in there, just a couple dollars every paycheck. Pretty soon, you'll have enough money to get one knife per month. This may come off as common sense to some, but I wish someone would have told me this when I was younger.

Also, request a passaround in the Passaround forums. There must be some reviews out there also. Call around, see if anyone is selling them, and hold the floor model in your hands, see which one you want more. There have been many times where I bought something online, without handling it, and found out when I opened up the delivery box, that it wasn't what I thought it would be. Good luck, think a lot about your purchases.
