with some advice...

because you guys are Busse lovers I know you have beyond good taste in blades. Although this may not involve Busses because they are obviously higher end products I have a friend with a 100-150$ budget that needs a 6-7 inch knife of the best quality that he can afford!

Thanks in advance,

Suggestions??

If he can "get by" with a 5" blade I would say get a RMD. If not get a regulator from the Yard.

He wants something that he can get relatively soon...how long is the wait time on the Regs

Hopefully I'm not breaking any rules for the Busse forum, but see the products from ESEE/Rat Cutlery, or Ontario, or Ranger, or Becker Knife.

 what Oeser said

The RMD or RatManDo is an amazing blade and can be had within your buddys budget. Honestly, next to the Busse NMSFNO, the RMD is my favorite Bussekin blade.

If he needs it asap, there are a few on the exchange.

If you do go outside of Bussekin knives, Id recommend the Rat Cutlery/ESEE 6 - helluva blade, well within budget, comes with a great sheath and 1095 is a really great steel!

I think I would guide him toward a regulator. Lotta of knife for the price. Comes in under the max on this guy's budget, even with a sheath.

Thick SR101 steel. Forever warranty. Comfy handle.

how long is the RMD??

It's a little over 5 inches. I'm an idiot and didn't see you said 6-7, i thought you said 5-7.

Sorry about that.

I'd say have him get the regulator from scrapyard, but I'm just not into it at all. I'm sure it'll be a great workhorse though.

I think that also. the reg is probably a tough knife but, elegant, it is not. My friend would probably like the RMD better even though its small because it looks prettier.

Scrap Yard has some great ones in this range I believe.

Another ESEE vote. I have the RC-5 but the RC-6 would prob be just right for your friend.

He has his eye on the RC-6....but i was trying to sway him over to the Busse family. I have a Chopwheiler and love it...tough knife! but a little out of his price range...maybe for his bday I will sell it to him for like $185 :)

If he is patient you can often find a "used but not abused" sale for a great deal on a Busse or Bussekin blade.

Another vote for an ESEE.

He will be very pleased with any one of them from the family.

SWAMP RAAAAAAT! So affordable for there exquisiteness :)

if swamp rat didnt have the same selling strategy as Busse, (1 model at a time) they would be the best choice...but besides marked up secondary prices, and "iffy" unnamed auction site sales, they are impossible to get at the original SR prices... Like I said, a chopwheiler goes for about 220-250 on the secondary market which is a little more than he will spend

Looks like the majority vote is for ESSE.
