So im thinking of getting a sheath done for the knife on bottom here. Its an Aranyik E-Nep. Its an ugly knife and i want an ugly utilitarian sheath for it. I was thinking of getting some kydex but it seems far too.....pretty for this knife.

So im thinking of getting some cheap, thick leather but i dont know where to get small quantities, the Tandies/Radio Shack is gone from my area. Can you guys point me in the direction of some leather companies?

There were a couple of threads in the past concerning machete sheaths made of PVC pipe heated and flattened. The search function should turn them up. As I recall they fit well into your "ugly and utilitarian" category.

Then there is also the Duct Tape and Cardboard option assuming your post was serious in the first place.

Look for old conveyor belts, usually they're heavy, water proofed reinforced canvas, this would suit your needs well and would be easy for you to make your own.

Check around your local big kitchens, like hospitals, hotels, large food plants, theses places are constantly replacing conveyor belts and throwing them out or pieces out all the time. All ya gotta do is ask, most places would be glad to give it to you.

I know as a retired trades person when I was working as a mechanic in the food industries, we always had pieces lying around.

I once stitched up a sheath for a kbar out of an old football. Turned out pretty cool, did the stitching in white to look like the lacing and used it for years. A few years back a buddy had a machete that needed a sheath. We dug around in his garage and came up with a cracked rubbermaid tub. We cut out a side, heated it up,wrapped it around the blade and trimmed it to fit, including a fold over belt loop. Then we used some gorilla glue to seal the sheath edge and tack down the belt loop and wrapped the whole thing in a roll of duct tape. Virtually bomb proof machete sheath that is still in use. We've done a few more since then too.

I love it!! I've always been a big fan of the "What Can I Make A Knife Sheath Out of With What I Have On Hand?" concept!

Ever since I discovered those sandals that use old tire tread back in the 70's its been a fascination. :)

Dig in the garage, visit construction sites, and like whats said above visit business's that have strong but flexible materials.

I've built armor for SCA out of 55 gallon drums, car tires, and conveyor belt. It actually works as good as expensive steel and leather rigs. Look up Society for Creative Anachronisms for what I am talking about.

Now, I hope some see what I mean by my "Form AND Function" Mantra. :D

It was serious. I actually have a hobo "sheath" for it because it sits in between my car seats. Its basically just 2 thick pieces of cardboard with some gorilla tape. I need something more waterproof than it to take it around in the woods though

Thanks for the info!

Sounds like "Road Warrior" armor, or post apocalyptic armor leatherman. I like it..
A few people have posted vids of PVC piping for sheaths, specifically for machetes. They aren't too bad. You should check them out. I like the conveyor belt idea.

Mud flaps from trucks, see em' on the side of the road all the time...
Yes! Mud flaps! I had forgotten about those, we had a couple of people make very decent leg armor out of that stuff. It would shrug off an impact very well. A machete sheath out of that stuff would be very strong.

True, that stuff if not painted did look very Road Warrior like. :) That plastic paint works real well on the drum material, or I'd cover it in a thin layer of leather or cloth. With cloth you can get real creative with patterns, same with a machete sheath.

How about using a Crazy Carpet?

(it's a type of child's snow sled popular in snow-bound areas:))
