I need some advice quickly. 2 knives. Les Voorhies flipper vs. Darrel Ralph AO.

I am trying to decide between two excellent EDC knives.

They are both very fine, but I have never owned a knife from either maker.

I am looking for some advice.

These are the two knives I am debating over:

1. Les Voorhies Model 11 Flipper Knife $599

2. DDR Darrel Ralph Custom Made Trigger Maze Assisted Opening Knife $525

I imagine that the Les Voorhies flipper will open almost, if not just as fast as the AO knife by Darrel Ralph.

I am mostly asking about the quality of the craftsmanship between the two knives, but also on which one you would choose and why.

---

Thank you and best wishes!

I like the look of the DDR trigger maze a little better than the Vorhees.

Les' knife. I think the design is much better. His craftsmanship is excellent. The rest is. . . personal. (You may ask back channel.)

Me, I'd take the Darrel ralph in a heartbeat.
The reliability of a great surefast grip with ergonomics
superlative to the L.V. knife. The ao is faster (and if youre in a line of work ie police, military personal defense etc..fast is good..I have flipped ao , ikbs, teflon washer etc..I have collected customs from many different makers..i personally carry for self and family defense so I like the ao..).And to me for the price a better knife.
In regards, to what Mr. Broadwell said about "personal", with all due respect,
I believe such comments should be left out of these kinds of threads.Your observations about the knives hold more weight than soap opera drama comments about what may or may not have happened to you.

Perhaps just "personal" was too vague. See if this is better. I would be happy to give an objective report of my personal experiences with each maker from a professional perspective, along with observations on craftsmanship based upon 30 years experience as a custom knifemaker, back channel. Does that remove the soap opera aspect?

Ok. I will end this thread with a thank you to everyone who commented.

It was a hard choice, but I purchased the Les Voorhies Flipper. I will post pictures in 3 days or so.

It is a gorgeous knife. Very well made.

Thank you again.

I'm curious about where this model 11 was selling for $599, you can see in the link that my price was $525. I don't even try to control what dealers charge for my knives (never will) and I've seen a few do discreet (very small) markups because I have a waiting list, but that's a $74 markup.

Just so your know Les, I did choose yours very quickly over the Darrel Ralph. Your Flipper Model 11 is very well built and I admire your creativity and craftsmanship greatly!

Enjoy the Les. I myself prefer the DDR. Either would have suited you well. DDR knives may not be everyone's cup of tea because they have a distinct styling (which I quite love) much like Todd Begg's knives have that distinct styling. Les's designs vary more to my eyes. What I do like about that particular Les flipper is that, at least to me, it looks very modern while still maintaining a sort of air of elegance.
