I am a 15 year old knifemaker from Mid-Michigan. I have a hf 4x36 cheapo belt sander i use for grinding my knives. (it sucks) I want to invest in a decent 2x72 grinder. The only two that caught my eye (due to price) were the no weld grinder kit, grizzly g1015, and the coote 2x72. The problem was I'm not a very good mechanic or electrician so i cant make a nwg kit grinder. I might be able to get away with building up a coote but it will cost extra money for the motor and such... The g10 15 is nice but i cant afford it. I need some advice at trying to make money for a grinder. I cant make knives efficient enough to sell because my machine lacks power. Ive tried mowing lawns and shoveling snow but absolutely NOBODY hires. So if anyone can give me some advice it would be much appreciated :D

Clean houses? Work under the table? Put up an odd jobs listing on Craigslist for your area saying you'll take any jobs people don't feel like doing themselves. May suck but it could turn out profitably.

Craftsman 2x42 with Norton Blaze belts is worlds above the 4x26 from HF at 1/3 the cost of the Grizzly or Coote.
Use that until it dies and hopefully by then you'll have saved up enough for a 2x72.
Or - talk to your metal shop teacher and see if they will help you build a no weld grinder (plans are a free pdf download) -- the experience will be good for you and you'll never beat the price.
