What do you think would be the best to do in this situation?

The EU-17 magnum that I have a has a relatively low serial number (#4). It has been a user for a while and a few weeks back I tried giving it a satin finish. Overall, it looks ok, not as good as the SFNO but not *bad*.

I am also trying "prioritze" the Busses that I buy and I would rather have a HOG FBM than a EU-17 Mag. What could I sell this piece for minus the logo and partial satin finish? I realize that the logo can be put back on and this might help the value. I have the leatherman sheath it came with that was about $100. Another thing, the piece also has a practically reground ege that is not done by a professional. The total was about $475, so basically, how much could I get for it now?

Thanks for all the help.

If you're not sure, then start at a reletively high number.... maybe you can even get $475 for it, I'm not sure, then just keep dropping the price until someone picks it up, unless you need the cash quickly, don't drop the price very quickly. (I just noticed you're not a gold member) Or just stick it on eBay, if so, I think a starting price of $300 might be good.

Man, since you messed it up, I'll give ya $75US, and pick up the shipping. Hate to see you take a total loss on it.

Im not sure Ive even seen a pic of the EU-17, I guess ill do a search.

below is a pic of one of my "standard" model EU 17's

The EU 17 Magnum that Peter has, has a longer blade than the one in the pic,but the handle and all is still the same.

the EU 17 Magnums had a 9 inch blade,,,and I think there were 28 avalible to the civilian market(37 of the standard models were avalible to civilian HOG'S), and at the time the Magnums were being offered,,they sold for $297.00 each.

Peter,

Unless you know someone in your area who could expertly redo the edge, probably the best option would be to send it back to the factory - I think the only charge would be shipping both ways. Before you do that, check to see how much it would cost to have the original tan finish redone, and if the cost was reasonable, I think you would probably recover it and some more when selling it. Having both the edge and finish done at the factory would essentially restore it to like new condition.

GALAXYTECH,

Very cool photo!

Peter,
A lot of people have expressed interest in that model which is relatively rare. So put it on E-bay and let the market decide what it is worth. Sell it if you get what you want. It's a large world out there and people with money will pay for what they want. Inform them that it can be brought back to specs by the factory and don't mention what you have done to it, only that it is in used condition. Good luck.

The shop may redo the edge no problem, but I doubt if it will be recoated or re engraved. I may be wrong, but I think re coating is just not offered. This is all done before the handles are attached.

May get them to do a trip through the blast cabinet though.

If it's a user, why not just keep it and use it?

Rob

I wouldn't worry too much about trying to refinish the blade or edge. It's a user -- sell it as is. I'm pretty certain that it'd sell for maybe $40-50 below the original price.

Good luck bro!

I vote ebay also. Like someone else said, alot of people have shown interest in that model. Remember the $791.00 SFNO? Thats people showing interest, Well atleast two people showing interest.

Peter, sounds like you ruined it. It'd be best to simply give it a decent burial so that you can obtain complete closure on this and be able to get on with your life.

Send it to me and I'll cut it up with a torch for you.

Trust ol' Troll Bait. Do not resist. Listen to that still, small voice in the back of your head. Don't fight it.

Just my opinion Peter but I'd offer that Hog for every penny you got into it. Yours is one of the few I've ever seen and I don't care if it was used or not I'd pay the cash to get it. That is assuming I had that type of cash. Busse's are going pretty good right now on the Exchange. I'd start there if I was you. Give a guy from the community a chance to pick her up and if it doesn't go for what you want you can always use Ebay.
