I cant find ANWYWHERE around me that has any that I can fondle. Ive made a few sheaths from the remnants I can find at craft stores here and there, but that's usually too soft and light.

There is Tandy, but any other good online sources? And what is a good weight to order for sheaths and all around cool stuff?

Jantz has leather for around $10.00 a sq ft but you can only buy 1 or 2 sq ft pieces. It is nice leather I have just started using it. Doug

Depending on where you are it may be quicker and easier to go to the tandy in Chattanooga or even go to the Amish community in our area. I agree with Talfuchre though W&C is about the best leather for the price in America. I have a few saddle making buddies and I'd say 9 of 10 use W&C leather.

Hi Echo... I lived in C-ville for years. (Euharlee actually). Im over in Canton now.

Anyway, yea, the problem is that I dont know what I am ordering.. :)

I am by no means a leather worker, I just want to make a few sheaths. :)

I like 8/9 or 9/10 oz shoulders for knife sheaths and other gear made from leather, like holsters and haversacks.
For really heavy duty gear, I use saddle skirting.
make sure you get oak or veggie tan -- chrome tanned (like the brown or black stuff in a lot of "farmer's bundles") will eat your blades.
good luck!
