Who produces the Damascus for CrK? Is it actually Damascus or just etched? Are the Damascus blades folded? Really dont know anything about their Damascus steel so want to get as much info as possible. Reason being is I want to buy my son a Knife to give to him when he graduates. He's 2 right now. So just doing as much research as I can.

Thank you

Current production is Chad Nichols, Devin Thomas was the main supplier for years and recently retired which is why the switch occurred. In the past they have used some others in a limited capacity such as Jerry Rados, Bertie Reitvelt, Damasteel, Gary House, Bill Burke to mention a few.

yes they are all actual Damascus and not a surface coating or laser etch.

There is an etching process to reveal the different types of steel folded and welded together to create the pattern effect, but that is normal for all vendors using pattern-welded (AKA Damascus) steel.

The surface etch can fade some with use, but it retains its beauty at the same time.

I daily carry a Damascus 21 for many months of any given year. It’s my single favourite CRK knife.

Devin Thomas and Chad Nichols.
You can still find D.T. Damascus on 21’s, C.N. Damascus will be on some 21’s and all the 31’s.
Personally, D.T. Ladder Damascus is my favorite pattern and C.N. Boomerang Damascus is outstanding.
You can find the steels both makers use.

I love Damascus 21, a great knife. Really great knife, but I also need education to understand these types of knives.

These are my Damascus Mnandi's. A mixture of Devin Thomas, Rob Thomas (his bro, I think), and Chad Nichols. Mnandi's are their smaller knives and may not be of interest, but it shows CRK Damascus, at least the more common patterns.

I'm currently on the hunt for a CN boomerang small 31. What hurts the pocket is new the small and large are within 50~$75 of each other. And I know I can't do a large. I want to carry it. But a large is just so much more to look at. For all the fidgiting I do it'd be wonderful to look at but, ouch, the wallet sting. I do plan on calling CRK today to see if I can just buy a blade. My small is only days old, born the beginning of Oct.

I love your photos of your Mnandi collection…just such a sexy knife when wood and Damascus come together!
Thank you. It took 10 years to put together this group. Really appreciate your comment.

Got a no go from CRK on just buying a blade at this time. They’re filling orders so I was told to check back in Q2

I only have 3 Damascus knives from CR, but I also have several in various mono steels. I can’t say which holds an edge longer but I know I love the Damascus knives more.3 crknives.jpg
