Hi Everybody!

This is my first time posting to bladeforums. Thanks in advance for any good tips/advice.

I have been wanting to do a favor for a friend for a long time. He is really into fantasy art and has several swords and daggers. I'm looking to spend under $70 on a knife that can be displayed. However, I don't want to get "just another curvy knife". Know-what-I-mean?

So, I am looking at this knife: Fang of Baelin by Kit Rae. It's made by United Cutlery.

You can see it here:

I know, I know. "It's not a work knife" and "You can't really use it".

I've used knives to do everything. From cutting down trees to skinning animals, and even to cut grass in the fields of Guatemala with a 32" double-edged machette and keep within 2 inches off the ground -- I know utility. But this friend of mine is completely opposite and prefers to display his knives, and I respect that.

Can anybody tell me if this is junk or a good knife? I don't want to be giving a cheap, fall-apart knife to a good friend.

I have handled it and it looks great and feels solid and sturdy.

Are there any other knives I should be considering?

Thanks

Dan

I have the Fang of Baelin. I think it is a very nice
display piece (SHARP, too!). It looks good sitting on top
a dresser or some tower speakers.

fossilhunter,

Thanks for the info. I have actually looked at that "tiger". It's crazy. I wonder who came up with that one?

That would definately be a great conversation starter for guests. (at least, for the ones that don't get scared away)

Hmmmm... with Halloween around the corner...

Just kidding.

The fossil hunter knife is pretty groovy - almost there...

How about that axe? It's too expensive, though.

Any other suggestions?

Dan

So, do you consider your Fang a "nice" knife, or just another display piece?

Check out this!!

If I was into fantasy stuff, this would make me cream!

www.discountknives.com has it for $62.25 It is a Kit Rae, so the quality is probably the same as the "fang" one.

WOW:eek: that IS a cool piece! I really am not all that into fantasy styles, but I like to hang a few of them around the house, and set a few next to my display cases. They really seem to set things off nicely.

Pendesign: the saber tooth knife is very good quality. You can get it from www.eknifeworks.com for around $35. You could actually use it if you felt the need, by slipping your fingers through the eye sockets and using a "claw" type approach. The blades are very sharp though and it would be difficult to avoid cutting yourself on the sharp edges while holding it. It would make a very unique gift.

Also check out some of the other fantasy styles that www.eknifeworks.com is offering. They have a great selection, and some of the cheapest prices I have seen. Good luck.

Oh sorry, reread your post and you were asking about the Fang of Baelin. Yes, I think it is a nice knife. Not much of a user unless you like to get yourself in trouble (no discreet carry on this one;) )
But overall, I really like it. The link in my last post also has the black finish one for sale (and cheapest prices on it that I have found). I think I am going to pick up the black finish to compliment the grey weathered finish I already have. When I ordered my first one I wasn't expecting much because of the low price, but it is very solid and looks very interesting. My girlfriend even thinks it is cool and doesn't mind me decorating the place with it:) .
