I need some help picking a good folding flipper for everyday carry any help whatsoever would be greatly appreciated I've looked everywhere and I just can't seem to find the right one for me.

I use a M16-12M crkt for daily carry it's just that its abit too big and heavy and I've looked all over I can't find anything just as good.

I'm looking for one just like it, except for a few things, the blade has to be precisely 2.5 inches long, I just read up on the laws here in MA and thats apparently the maximum lenght they can be here.

I'd like it to have a matt black clip, preferable at the top of the handle like on the EDC version of my knife, the problem with those being the smallest one is 3 inches.

I'd also like it to weigh a little less than the one I'm using now which is 3 ounces, also it must have some sort of guard infront of the blade (I don't trust knives that dont have guards they just make me nervous, it also must be a lockback for the same reason)

the closest I've come the perfect knife is a boker armed forces spearpoint folder 1.

which is about a 4th of an ounce heavier than the ckrt, the clip is too far down the handle to properly conceal it and its got dual flipers when I only need 1

Sorry if i've put this thread in the wrong place, the crkt m16 is a regular folder, not an automatic right?

Howdy and welcome to Blade Forums!

You want to be in the General Discussion Forum. This is the Traditional Forum and is dedicated to slipjoints and such. Not to worry, we're a pretty friendly crew. I'm sure that Elliott (Blues, the Moderator) will move this to General in the morning.

Oh, and you might check Kershaw's offerings. They have several with flippers and Kershaw makes some pretty nice knives. Personally, I would rank them well above CRKT.

Have fun and Welcome!

I would go with Kershaw's Skyline. G-10 handles, Lightweight & slim. Good steel & price, Made in U.S.A, Gary

My bad, well it was my first time posting here so I was bound to make a mistake

fiunny as soon as I heard linerless in this review of the skyline knife I immediately closed the window and went looking at the other knives he reviewed

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hz8ZAnendfQ

and it says on the kershaw page that IT does have a linerlock, other than its blade length its perfect, and it doesn't look like a combat knife so it kinda balances it out, and I could just take the clip off and paint it matt black

this is where I found that restriction thing by the way

and heres the excerpt from that page:

Call your local police dept. and get the straight goods.

If you can swing it, a Kershaw Random Leek or a Spyderco Native are both excellent small folders.

okay ill look into that way, I'll just head over to the police station and if that boston restriction stands i'll be going for either a Kershaw scallion or a sog 1, thanks for the help guys

the thing that drew me to that ckrt knife was the massive guard infront of the serated blade, not only did it protect my hand from slipping onto the blade it also gave my large hands a good grip on the knife, which up in till that point was the reason why I refused to carry a pocket knife, I just couldn't find anything I was comfortable with.

Consider the Spyderco Scorpius or Lava. Both are small knives designed for large hands.

Cant go wrong with Spyderco.

bad news I just looked up the Spyderco Scorpius and Lava and it says they've been discontinued

just a fun weird vid

so its either the sog 1 or the scalion, I have to admit though the saftey on the sog makes me a little nervious but I'd probably do the same thing he did in the vid and superglue it off

and I do prefer the black finish

thanks for all the help guys, I'm glad I won't have to go for another 3 oz plus knife to get one with a good grip and some sort of knife guard as nutnfacy pointed out the lighter it is the more often you're going to be carrying it.

I'd recommend a PE Spyderco Native with the S30V blade. It's small in the pocket, rides flat and cuts like a bigger knife than it is. If you have to have the flipper I'd check out the Buck Vantage Select small size. I've read some good reviews of it and both knives are made here in the U.S. if that's a criteria for you.
