My Uncle told me this story about a meteorite going over the family farm one summer night in 1963 and filling the sky with green light so bright it was like daytime.
He says he thinks it impacted in Eastern Canada. How can I find out the exact name and date of that event?

I dunno, Danny. Was it a reported event? Maybe you could look up the paper reporting it in the library to see if it has any kind of info on when and where it hit? Old tech, but probably your best bet if it wasn't a nationally reported event.

I remember it, I was 6 at the time, big news on the east coast. I lived in western NY at the time.

Don't remember the details, I don't remember yesterday.

I think the Peace River Meteorite is the right time frame, but do you think it would have been so bright in North Texas?

That probably depends on the trajectory. They are fairly high up still when they light up like that, of course that's already within the atmosphere. Your skies are generally clear, also, which helps.

I saw a similar spectacle from here in NJ a few years ago. Surprised me that it got so little notice.

I saw something similar fly over Mnpls in the summer of '76. A friend and I were looking at the stars (Jun/Jul if I remember) and saw this huge thing fly over. It looked like a metor, but lower and bigger than I've ever seen before. NOBODY reported seeing it (and we were in S. Mnpls, it was flying north, so it went right over a bunch of people). I still wonder about what it was...

See if you can access newspaper archives online for that time period. Something that big should have been news somewhere along the flight path... bigger metro papers usually will allow a search in archives for free, but you might have to pay for a subscription.

Good luck.
