I'm looking for either a large folder or a fixed blade. When i mean large for a folder i mean with a blade of at least 4 inches. I'd like the price to be around 60$. NO WOOD HANDLES. I also want it to be able to put up with some abuse. Maybe the cold steel voyagerwith 5 inch blade? Any Ideas?

If no ideas for a folding knife i'm also looking for a fixed blade knife that either is a "tactical" knife or an outdoor knife. I was looking at the Ka Bar warthog. The blade should be around 5 inches or bigger. The price under 100$. Once again NO WOOD HANDLES. Thanks for the help

The Buck fixed blades with the black handles (Pathfinder, Special, etc.) are excellent knives for the money. Very durable.

Just the first thing that popped into my head...

How bout Benchmade's Rant bowie for a fixed? I'd own one myself, but got a great deal on a Katz 302 6". The store up the street has the Rant for $60 and I almost bought it tonight. Buck Vanguard and also check Cabela's for their Alaskan Guide series I believe is S30V stainless.

Folder: Ka-Bar Mule. I’ve been using this knife around the farm for nearly a year, and I’m still impressed with how high the quality is for the price.

Fixed blade: any Swamp Rat or Ranger Knives that takes your fancy. Both companies make very tough knives at a great price, and in both cases you’re supporting stand up people rather than a faceless corporation.

I'll second the Ranger, even though I haven't received my RD7 yet! I recommend them mainly because Justin seems to be willing to do just about anything you want to the knife and at a reasonable price. I know, in the end, I'll have the knife I want no matter what. Great communication and information from Justin. Next to cutting the materials for you, there's not much else you can ask of a knifemaker.

i already own some of the buck knives with black phenolic handles. I'll look at th eknives you all suggested. If you think of any others let me know.

About the ranger knives. I was looking at the ready detachment series. Any thoughts on that knife?

Anza probably has some synthetic materials available. You should e-mail them for prices and materials available; I bet they can custom make you a knife with a 5" fixed blade for $100 or less. Or use your material choice on one of their standard models.

Have you seen the Buck Nighthawk? Not the greatest/latest steel, but the ergonimics are perfect. $45.

Most of my fixed blades are natural handled drop-point hunters, so it's difficult to make first-hand suggestions that fit your criteria. Too bad you missed out on the Camillus CUDA CQB closeouts, $30 at Sportsman's Guide.

Happy Shopping,
Bob
