I've got this very sturdy siegle fixed blade, but I dislike the handles. I would like to get the old leather ones removed and replaced with black G10. The current handles are held on with epoxy and the three rivots. Drop me a line If you can help me out at a reasonable cost.

Hmmm..interesting project. I had to pop off a handle of one of my knives because the HT wasn't good and the steel wasn't hard. I will be home this weekend and can probably get it done for after christmas. I have grey G10 handle stuff, but no black. How long are the handles?? I also have black linen micarta and natural generic micarta, along with some woods. I also have brass and 416 stainless 1/8" pins. My cost would be pretty low, basically cost of materials plus a little extra for labor, ie popping the old handles off, prepping for new handles and attaching them. Turn around would be pretty quick, too. Email me at tjohnson@ycp.edu for more info and to discuss this further!

why not do it yourself? take the handle to a grinder or use brute force and file it off. order some G10 material and rivets from koval's. glue and screw together, get file back out. pretty soon, you'll be wanting to file your own blade to place G10 handles on

How is the project going? If you got the handles off, you are halfway there. You can get scales from many places, then its basically drill the handle material, epoxy and pin it on and then shape the handle.

the handles are off. now I'd like some of you nice people out there to suggest a handle material for me. The sheath is black kydex, so I'd like to have the handle go well with that.

Black linen micarta!! Not too expensive and polished nicely w/o much work. jantz, texasknife makers supply, kovals, K&G all sell micarta, black, red, dark red, black and green, all different sorts of color choices! Kovals had the most colors available and pics of the colors online.

You will need drill press, vise, files, clamps, sandpaper, preferably shop rolls for hande shaping, epoxy. For polishing, get a power hand drill, buffing wheel, 1 or 2 of them and the converter to make the buffing wheels go into the hand drill. Also, get some polishing compounds, other guys can suggest what types. Or you can take a chunk of leather, like an old belt, charge it with polishing compound and use this to polish the handle.

Basically, drill the handle material for the pins, you can use old nails for the pins or order pinstock from one of the aforementioned places in the size you need, epoxy the handle slabs to the tang, put pins thru and let set for 24 hours. then you shape the handle with sandpaper, files, etc. You can also shape out the handle before attaching, just dont remove too much!! Jigsaw, bandsaw or even hand saw works well for this; trace around the handle with a marker so you can see the outline, then cut on the outside of the magic marker line, giving you some leeway. Let me know if you need more help!!
