I need ur opinion.....

Go with it?

Try Smartwool socks.

If you haven't tried them on first, you should. I used to work in the boot department of a backpacking store. We carried Asolo and they seemed to be great boots. They also seemed to fit very differently that almost every other company we carried. Very different last I guess. If they did fit people well, people LOVED them. We got very, very few Asolo returns. This was ~10 years ago FWIW.

Nice looking boots.

I've had a pair of all leather Asolos (535Vs I think?) for the last 5 or 6 years, and have been very happy with them, in conditions from mud in England, to snow in New York, to rocky slopes in New Mexico. That being said, I would try them on if you can (or even a different model of Asolos) because as Paul mentioned, they are cut differently than most boots. Mine fit me great and I find them really comfortable compared to other boots, but YMMV

Hi All-

If you're looking for something to go with the boots, I would suggest soft relaxing music, fava beans, and a nice Chianti wine...if that's what you're seeking.

As an aside, I would also recommend the SmartWool socks. The seamless toe and generous soft wool is very comfortable and wicks perspiration very quickly.

Boots are something that should be purchased in a bricks n' mortar kind of store to allow the best fitment. Given the two models you suggested, I think that the olive drab/black combination is pretty cool and would be the most "flexible" in terms of garments with which it would be paired. Good luck with your purchase!

Another vote for Smartwool. I got a pair of light hikers with a store credit, wincing at the $16 price tag, but I went back and got another pair a week later. No regrets. I picked up a couple pairs of another brand, also made with merino wool, and like them quite a bit too, but they aren't holding up as well as the Smartwool. Not quite as comfy either. Added bonus, they come big. I wear a 14-15 shoe or boot depending on manufacturer, and the xl socks fit perfectly.
