i need your advice on buck110

Go to cabelas.com and get the 110 Alaskan Guide Series in S30V steel. Price is $60 and comes with a very nice sheath. Got one 3 months ago and is the best 110 I own - beautiful knife and a great cutter.

thank you .

is this 110 of 420 steel great?
thanks

The Buck 110 can be bought the cheapest at KMart or Wal-Mart. Like Under $30 with a nylon sheath.

As for the steel. It is 420HC but at least the heat treat was overseen by Paul Bos so it is the bet HT you can find on that steel.

The Buck 110 is a fine knife. Go to the Buck forum on this site and check out the thread on "110 Stories".

Buck's 420HC is just fine, I use it alot and it is much better than the reputation it sometimes gets. Their heat treat is top of the line. You will enjoy your 110!

I used to have a 420 110. I regularly encourage people seeking quality while on a budget to get one. They are very durable knives of good quality for the price, but if you want something that can hold a razor edge for a reasonably long time, get something else.

I personaly did not know about the cabelas S30V model. I think I will order one. But first, could somebody please tell me how rust resistant S30V is?

If that's all you can get where you live then that should take care of it. It's also the same that we can get here in the states now too I believe. Either way, you will not be disappointed. Pair it up with a Harley-Davidson t-shirt and you'll have a double whammy American classic duo! Maybe a chain attached to your wallet too for a total look...If you want an earlier USA version in 440, check E-bay.

S30V is a stainless steel that's supposed to take a good edge but recently I'm seeing a lot of reports of S30V having poor edge durability (eg chipping and cracking). It was found by some that by using light strokes to sharpen metal fatigue and chips could be prevented.
