:) Hello !

One of my friend bought this CRK knife in 1995/1996. It looks like a Mountain model and like a Shadow. He would like to know which model it is and what kind of steel it is made of.

Thank you very much.

Ok for that !

I'll try to contact them.

But if anyone has an idea I would be glad to read it.

The point that confuses me is the shape of the blade close to the Shadow but with this false edge on the top, and the guard loking like a mountain one.

Is this a kind of prototype ?

From what I have seen, Reeve has almost always used A2 Steel in his "one piece" designs up until the Green Beret knives.
Also, Note the low serial number of 37. I've got a mountaineer 1, ser# 129. Perhaps someone from the factory can give us a timeline as to when they were made, or when they phased serial numbers out.

It is interesting how a model can lie low for so many years and then emerge! We made 100 of these 4 inch knives around September 1989. They were called "Phantom" and were an exclusive for a company in France whose name we can't recall! We've heard nothing about them all these years and in the past few months we have had three or four inquiries, all of them from Europe!

They were made of A2, from the regular 4 inch blank. Chris and I had immigrated in March 1989 and there were just the two of us in the business. He did the grinding etc., I did the Kalgarding, packing etc. The sheaths were made in South Africa by John Leth - we had not yet made any connection with sheath makers in the USA. I guess historically, they are pretty collectable!

Hope this info helps!

Anne,

Thank you so much for the information, I'll forward it to my friend.

Once again I wish you and all the team a Merry Christmas and a happy new year.

Anne,

Thanks for the info on this knife. Any chance that you can make a limited run of these for BFC members? :D

Can you tell us about serial numbered knives?
I have the 4 inch mountaineer with the serial number 129
which models get a number?
