I have a knife I received from a friend after he passed 2 years ago it appears to be a Chris Reeve Green Beret. My plan is to have it looked at and confirmed to be real, I DO NOT WANT TO RISK SELLING A FAKE, to anyone. Also before anyone thinks I'm a jerk for selling I have several more knives and a gun I received from his wife which I'm keeping. Back to the knife I will add pics but a few quick checks I've made- the engraving of names are very clean lines and of moderate depth all around with no shallow spots, a common red flag is shallow cuts. The entire knife just feels smooth and polished in hand. The micarta scales don't have a single stray "hair" around the edges or screw holes which is frequently seen on many other knives. I believe the knife is an earlier production because it has a Blackhawk sheath instead of the Spec-ops sheath. I was also told the early versions were S30V instead of S35VN, and it doesn't have the 3 small cut outs on the forward part of the scales, I was told that was just another change over time. The final piece I was told is that the number of serrations changed over the years also. My big concern is that there is no box or build certificate, my friend chunked all boxes and just stored all knives in his gun safe, maybe his wife missed it, I don't know. Please look at the pictures and all your help would be appreciated.
Thanks Chris

Well Chris, since no one has responded I guess I can put in my two cents. I am by no means an expert, infact far from it, especially when it comes to CRK fixed blades. But from your photos I would say that the knife is exactly what you think it is. These knives were first introduced in 2002 according to the CRK time line here on the forum, and were indeed made with s30v steel. I have not seen any particularly strong collector intrest in the knives with the exception of a couple of numbered versions and of course the "real" ones issued to SF graduates. (I dont think they can be sold). Sorry I can't be more helpful.
All the best, Dave

It looks exactly like mine, sans the sheath. My GB is one of the first with the Spec Ops sheath. You can also email pics/send the knife to CRK and they will confirm its authenticity and re-issue a box and birth certificate etc for it as well. If you are going to sell it, this would be the route that I would choose. (just me personally)

As stated above, send it to crk for a new card and box. The cost of that will be received back when you sell it. They will also sharpen it for you and you will know for sure it's legit. Personally I would hesitate to but any crk used if it came with no papers.

I appreciate your comments and would like to hear from a few more members, but I guess the final test would be to send it in to CRK and get a new box and certificate. Also to clarify I know the knife is considered "used" but appears to have the factory edge which feels very sharp and there are no marks or scratches from cutting and I sharpened all of my friends knives for him for the last 5-6 years on my Wicked Edge sharpener and this one was never touched. Just curious does anyone know what CRK charges for box/paperwork.
Thanks Chris

Looks like mine. (I mean legit, since I bought mine from a dealer and have box and papers)
The lanyard which is attached to the end of the sheath is a little stiff.
I like the sheath as it can ride low or high.
hope this helps.
