I need YOUR input on a Spydie Desktop Theme!

Hi fellow forumites and SpyderNuts!
I am busy putting a Spydie Desktop Theme together (see last week's threads for details of how this came about)...

This theme will include different backgrounds, screensavers, icons, mouse pointers, etc.

In order to strive (

) to keep to the same standards of excellence that Spyderco has set up, I thought to ask YOU to help me do this by giving some design inputs. What would YOU like to see? What is YOUR preference for icons, etc. Do you want a theme manager with it (for modifying/customising the theme)? Would you like to see various designs of this theme? What desktop resolutions would you like to be supported? What ideas for a Spydie Screensaver do you have? Etc.....

I would really appreciate your help in this regard.

Please understand that there will be NO fees charged for any of the outputs of this venture... We'll all contribute to something that's fun and enjoyable.

Sal/Danelle, would you like to distribute such a theme from your Spyderco website, or should I just post a link here on BF to where it will be when it's done?

A knife as a pointer. cool.
The whole thing needs to be modifyable. ie. some prefer military's as their pointers some starmate's (like me). TIA

Also, what would you like to see as icons for "My Computer", "Network Neighborhood", "Recycle Bin", etc? I have a few ideas, but would like a few more...

I am also thinking of making (some of) the icons and pointers animated. For example, the "hourglass"-type of waiting pointer might be a opening-and-closing knife.... Any ideas?

 
Great idea! How about a screen saver too? Models of Spydercos swimming across the screen.
 
It shouldn't be hard to come up with image idea but sounds might be hard. What sound does a spider make? You might try to get that decicive snap a knife makes and use it for window maxamize.

I'll brainstorm for a day or two to see if I can come up with some more ideas.

I realise that this is undoubtedly out of the question but it certainly would be neat.... if you've ever seen Sal deploy his Military in a twink of the eye, an animated desktop deployment would be neat!

The screen saver should be a knife slicing small random pieces of the screen off and they fall to the bottom in a heap. It could use knife slicing paper for sound. When the whole screen is in a heap, start over. Use 800X600 resolution. Opening a program or file should have the sound of a Military locking into place.
 
Sounds like some good ideas. You are, however, out of my field of expertise. Such a project would have to include Sales (Michelle), Legal (Peter) and Marketing (Steve) in decision and Danelle in execution. I'll stick to my field.

As for the screen-saver I was thinking of "the spyder" pulling pictures of the knives on the screen. The spyder could start making his net and then falling down from the top (with his cord) and pull in another picture.

GREAT STUFF so far! I'm most certainly not sorry about asking for additional inputs!! I will see how much of this is possible to do, but most of it sounds feasible...

In order to make it VERY good, it will take just a tad longer, though. But then we're USED to hearing about release dates and WAITING for NICE tools, eh Sal/Danelle/crew!!

I for one am very excited! I will be anxious until it is finished but I'd rather wait and get quality than get a rushed job. Thanks in advance for spending your time on this.

It would be neat to get all of the advertisements we've seen in the rags scanned for background. They could be tiled or rotated day to day as the uses sees fit.
Maybe danelle could send you a hard copys and they could be scaned if they don't already have electronic copies. Another screensaver could be those little spyders crawling on the screen and slowly eating it away. ????

fade in a branch in lower part of screen
An eagle flies up spreadimg its wings as it settles onto the branch.
standing on one leg it raises its right foot and begins to idly flick open (with sound) its talons one by one and then close them
the 1st is the blade of the Military
2nd the Starmate
3rd the Calypso
4th the Cricket
etc......

fade to black
fade in the graphic
