a terrible event has occured involving my beautiful FHM kriss blade bali and I humbly ask for the help of the experts hehe. You see the other day I put some white lighting knife oil on the hinges but unfortunatly the damn applicator was defective and like a third of the bottle went on my bali. I cleaned it with water but noticed the next day that the oil had left some nasty oil marks near the blade's hilt. Enraged I flew to Home Depot and bought industrial strength calcium, lime and rust remover because the clerk swore it would fix the blade. It said for steel apply first a even mix of water and CLR and scub stain. I did this and nothing happened. Then i did the next step on the bottle: which was to apply full strength undiluted CLR to the blade if step 1 didnt work. I did so and the stain evilly turned into rust...a third of the way up my bali's blade. I need to know what to do know when CLR caused rust instead of removing it. I know i COULD steel wool it and polish it over but i love this knife and dont want to scratch it. The blade of the knife is high carbon by the way and the handle is brass and i think Narra wood. PLEASE HELP ASAP,
Thanks El Malo

You might want to try some Flitz polishing compound. I have used it in the past to clean up rusty metal and it works pretty well.

You really weren't in that much trouble in the first place, with the White Lightning. The CLR recommendation baffles me though. Anyway, like McMahan said, try polishing with a fine paste such as Flitz or whatever you might have that is recommended for polishing steel. Unless the rust is extremely deep, polishing should work. Worst case is you might have to work your way up through some ultrafine (well over one thousand grit) sandpaper. You might want to ask over on the shop forum too, just to see what they say.

I think Flitz or Shimmelchrome might work. If you have a dremel tool use a cloth buffing bit with the polish... good luck

That stuff is awesome and usually can be found in most automotive retail stores. It should remove all the rust and return the steel to it's original shine, unless it needs to be repolished. I have a hand made tanto with a brass hilt and a fingerprint got etched into the metal because I did not clean it in time. Some polishing compound and a dremel tool fixed it right up.

great...i got some white lightning cleaning kit (noone had flitz) and polished the knife up. As predicted it removed the stains.
Thanks a lot evryone that replied
