So let me start by saying that I have always found Spydercos to be gimmicky and I didn't go for the whole "it's all about the ergos" thing. I have never viewed any Spyderco as a hard use knife, and the designs all look over the top. Coupled with the overwhelming danger of getting a fake, I've never considered any of the more expensive spyders.
Now I've had a couple enduras, and I have an H1 salt and they are fine for being cheaper knives. But yesterday, for some unknown reason I decided to look through the picture sticky and I ended up staying up late to look through all 200+ pages, and I think I'm hooked! I don't know why I didn't notice before, the military is about the best looking pocket knife I've ever seen and the blade looks like a real laser:D.
I think I finally get why so many people love this company. Money's real tight right now because of Christmas but my eyes are set on what my next purchase is gonna be when funds recoup! I just wanted to share my Spyderco conversion and ask what version Military yall would start with or if the PM2 is a better choice. Thanks for reading and Merry Christmas!:)

The military is not a small knife. I have a satin blade and black g10 s30v version. 4 inch blade and i think a almost 5 1/2 in handle. It's one of my favorites.

Two with Ti handles. I like the fluted ones more; they don't do the flamed/anno finish anymore though.

I recently picked up a satin/black S30v and it has not left my pocket. I use it outdoors at work and can open it with ease while using winter work gloves (even flick it!). It is incredibly light for the amount of usable blade length you get and isn't as wide in the pocket as other Spydercos. I was planning on trying a PM2 but did an about face and went with the Military. Right now it would be "the one" to keep if I had to get rid of everything else - it's that good. So I'd go for the G10 version mostly for the price to weight to performance ratio. Pound for pound it's a knock out.

Well, congratulations!! Just wait until you start using the military, or the PM2, you're going to be hooked ; I can honestly say that my addiction to folding pocket knives was originated by Spyderco; which is probably the case for many people.

You can't really go wrong with a Military with titanium handles, or any G10 handled one; the only thing I dislike about them is that they are tip down carry only, but that 4"blade is just a sexy beast, it also has a lanyard hole but it is useless because of the tip down thing, just my opinion.

The Paramilitary 2 is a different knife, except for the shape and size of the blade; it gives you more options for carry and it has a real lanyard tube in it, if you like using lanyards with your blades, which I do. They're also more affordable, that is the regular G-10 ones; the sprint runs can get pricey sometimes, but they're worth every penny; both the Millie and PM2 are also made in Golden, Colorado, USA, Earth.

Lock wise, the Military has a nested liner lock, extremely strong, the PM2 has a compression lock, IMO it is a stronger lock, and it is not a "glorified liner lock" as some people have suggested; it is a totally different system and even stronger than a liner lock, or even a frame lock; they really hit it out of the park with that compression lock, one of the best ever, again, just my opinion, also one of the safest ones to use.

It seems that you have already made up your mind as to what you will get; if you like the looks of it, buy it, they're so affordable (The G-10 versions with CPM-S30V) that you can always get another one either way you go. Like i said many times before, my camo DLC coated PM2 has not left my right pocket for the last three years; and that says a lot when I have so many to choose from.

The fluted titanium pictured above is a beautiful knife, for what I understand it is a complicated thing to make since every flute it's a different size, thus the high price on them, and they have the frame lock feature, I'm not sure since I don't own one, but still it's my favorite of all editions; they're always out of stock and they're hard to find for some reason:)

I hope that helps somehow; and merry Christmas to you too!

I really like both the Military and the PM2, but for me the PM2 is the best edc knife I have.

Get the CRUWEAR! You'll have to go second hand, but can probably get a lnib second hand. Here are some pics to help you out!

Your screwed now. I was looking back at my bank statements. I spent right at $2500 on spydercos last year after I got hooked.

Coupled with the overwhelming danger of getting a fake,...

LOL, I've had near 100 spiders and i've never even seen a fake in person. Buy from a real dealer and you will have 0 worry of fakes.

That said, I only had one military (CruWear) and sold it. I loved a lot of things about it, but i wish they would update it with the same changes they made to the PM2. Love my PM2 (S35VN), all around greatness.

Yall make a good case for the PM2. In the long run I might just get a PM2 in Elmax if I can find one easily. Ergonomically it looks better than the military and I like that there are so many options

I am carrying a PM2 Elmax on me right now and I love everything about it. [emoji4]

This was kind of my trajectory with Spyderco too. There are still certain designs that I don't like, but the ones that I do like are ones that I really really like. I genuinely never got the PM2. It wasn't aesthetically pleasing to me, and looked like too fragile/delicate of a knife to be as amazing as anyone said.

But, just you like, it's like a switch got turned one day and all of a sudden I thought they looked absolutely gorgeous. Then, after getting one in my hand, I understood how a knife could be such a slicer and have such a delicate tip while also being super sturdy.

Congrats on the revelation, and brace yourself for a lot of purchases!

The fluted Mil is probably one of the best looking knives out there. It's a pretty big knife though. I'd go with just a regular PM2 if you are going to use it! It's easy to find aftermarket scales for them as well. I think Spaceman on the forum has some Alum and Ti ones left for not too much.

That's the biggest thing for me is that the tips look so fragile and I'd hate to destroy mine just using it roughly. Especially when the knife world's biggest theme is overbuilt and pry a tank apart

Ergonomically it looks better than the military

While YMMV, as someone who's used both extensively I think otherwise. Ergonomically speaking I think the Military wins hands down. Given the size of the handle and its broad open space for hand placement, I've found it to be utterly useful - much more so than the Para2. Don't get me wrong, I love the Para2 like everyone else but to discount the Military without holding it, feeling how it sits in the pocket, and actually using it would be a mistake. I'm a big fan of the Ti versions like many others, but I've found through personal use the standard G10 in S30V is probably the best version for me. The super light weight combined with the seriously useful blade and a really comfortable carry in the pocket makes it a big winner in my book. And, the whole tip down argument doesn't pass scrutiny when you look hard at how it should be drawn given its size - recommend a search on the topic here as their are varying opinions on the tip-up vs tip-down Military debate. Give the standard G10 S30V Military a shot, you won't regret it.

You're think of ZT, The PM2 isn't marketed as being "overbuilt", "hard use", or pry bar like, or any other of the somewhat silly trends going now. It isn't even marketed as a "tactical" knife. It does however make a fantastic cutting tool, and the tip is plenty strong for anything you should cut with a folding knife. It's not meant for prying or splitting firewood, so it doesn't need to be any stronger.
