A friend bought me a box full of machetes and axes from one of the local boy scouts group to have then sharpened.
the stuff looked like it came directly from a 30-year period of use in the Amazon jungle, all rusted and dented. I had to grind and re-profile the edges on all of then and some were so damaged they looked like the blades were serrated. In the end, I was literally covered with dust and dirt and was smelling rust.
No problem , I like to help whenever I can but knowing how they use their blades, I am pretty sure they will come back for a new sharpening in no time at all :(.

You are right, IG, since we Portagees tens to forget how to do things if we spend too much time - like 5 menuts - without practicing then.

That's a cool thing to do Ivan. :) About the only thing I do that's similar is clean up friend's old sentimental knives for them. You've probably done it too, some guy has his grandfather's el cheapo hunting knife from the 1940s, all rusty and the leather handle dried and separated. It doesn't take much to bring those old knives back to freshness, and the owners really like it. I can never charge anyone for doing that, the appreciation is compensation enough. ;) I just hope the local Boy Scouts don't get any ideas... :D
