So I completed my Science Project on my folding knives the other day. I then brought my presentation board to school to display with the other projects. When people saw the pictures of knives on my board they immediately said- "oh, I have that knife," or "oh, my dad/granpa has that knife." I was a little surprised when I found out that 6 different people owned the Spyderco Tim Wegner. I was curious so I asked a few questions about their "Wegner." On a hunch, I asked if it had a button at the back of the handle that you pressed to close the knife. The answer in all cases was, "Uh-huh, it does have a button thing." Well, of course they didn't have a Wegner because the Wegner is a liner lock. They couldn't tell the difference between their own knife and a totally different knife. I never realized how non-knife-nut people see knives, it helped me to understand the much repeated "all your knives look alike."]

p.s. I can't tell ya how many times I heard this- "If you want a really good knife you should get a gerber EZ-OUT"

ME TOO,
several people I talk say that the gerber EZ Out is the best knife currently made, of course I humor them and go along but several people in my school own EZ Outs and are very impressed with them, so I dont bother to correct.......

And, for people who don't know the difference, an EZ Out will ,probably, be good enough until they need to know the difference.
Everybody starts somewhere

Guess it depends on where you live. In my high school this project would have gotten you in big trouble. They would have told you not to do it weeks before. Even pictures would be enough to get you in trouble.

It is sad that people that are not knife savy can't tell the difference between a lockback and a linerlock, or even between a $30 and a $300 knife. I'd swear that's impossible, but I've witnessed it, and it's the sad truth.

No way would they let me bring in real knives (I wouldn't want to anyway) but there seemed to be no problems with using pictures of the knives, which is what I did.

"The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the foolish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brothers keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay me vengeance upon you." OOHHH....BELIEVE it people! They can't tell if it's a LB or LL for sure. But we can't blame them for the lack of knowledge on something they have no interest at all.....

I used to cycle(I don't cycle anymore as it's too expensive to maintain, you'll know why later) a GT mountain bike with all the latest tech. parts and it cost me $6000 Malaysian Ringgit(that's about US$1600). I cycle to a nearby food stalls to eat, a man asked me how much i paid for it but i let him guess instead. He told me it worth about $300 MR max! Breaks your heart doesn't it? Lesson learned.....

BTW...i started off with a Gerber E-Z out and i WAS impressed. It's something they would not understand us as knife nuts since they don't have the interest. If they see something that amazes them....it's fix in their head no matter what.

Just my two cents worth.
