From what I understand, the unique lanyard pin that Reeve uses is because he hated that most knives chewed through their lanyards so quickly by friction against the scales. The pin lanyard was to avoid this.
I have to believe that the scallops are so the lanyard will not abrade against the scales here and help to avoid the same problem the pin system does.
Thats a surprising oversight for them. Maybe they weren't moving enough of those replacement lanyardsMakes sense. Though they changed the blade length on the smalls at some point from 2.94 to 2.99. That extra 0.06” mean the tip of the blade eats off the lanyard over time. I carry an older 2.94” and the lanyard lasts and lasts.
