I got off my lazy ass today and went to buy some files from a local junk store.
I got em home, and took a dremel to one of em.

its coming along, but with a dremel and not much else it takes some time...one section of the blade will almost tear paper

ill try to post some pics tomorrow, until then ill try to even this thing out some, make it look nice and purty.

any advice? its a wharncliff necker, with about a 2 to 2 1/4" blade made out of an old bastard file.maybe 1/8 in thick (not sure on that).im trying to do it all by eye,no measuring tools, just to get a feel for it.

Be sure to temper that file! Throw it in the kitchen oven at around 350 for an hour and let cool at least twice till it turns a straw or brownish color or you woill have a very brittle blade!

Thanks rob,
so i need to temper it,but no heat treat is necessary, right?

Unless the file was somehow overheated during its life it was already hardened during manufacture. As far as I know files are full hard with little or no temper put in them. A couple tempers as described above will make a much tougher blade. So yes, it has already been hardened so needs tempering.

here it is.
gimme what you will, i already took **** from the guys in chat (bastids).

son of a....
