Got this XM-18 3" slicer last Saturday. I'm using tapatalk, loading pictures was different from another forum I frequent. So here goes:

Forgot to mention that this is my first RHK.

My first "modification". I bought the standoffs before the knife was delivered.

I switched the brass standoffs for blue ones.

that looks soooo sweet!

i got a translucent green scale on the way for my 3,5"!:)

Thanks for the complements!

They came that way. I did not modify them at all, and as far as I can tell, they are unmodified originals. They are fairly uniform in color. The blue really does stand out well against the brass anodizing of the lockside, but the flash on my phone may have enhanced them a little bit. I'll see if I can get some natural light pictures today.

Cowsmilk did you bronze anodize Ti side or its torched, looks very nice.

Other than switching out the standoffs, the knife as you see it is how I got it. I was curious if someone else did something to it but cannot verify because I have no reference except for the pictures of others. The color is fairly uniform except for the small bits of purple on each end. I rather like it, but since I bought it second hand, and spent what I did, I'm not going to experiment on it to void the warrenty. Has anyone else seen color variations in their blue or bronze locksides?

The screws holding the filler and pocket clip came to me partially stripped, the Phillips heads are partially misshappen. Does anyone know if I can purchase some more from hinderer?

Here is a comparison shot between a flash photo and one with more natural light.

They are really more of an aqua color then the deep blue shown in the first picture, although if it were that dark, I would like them even more.

Judging by your photos that at first I believed could be "photochopped"...I'm guessing that the anodizing / coloring is aftermarket.

ETA---for replacements to stripped screws, contact Rob O. about hardware, he's great at assisting to meet those needs.

Yeah, I don't have the skill for that. I would like to get a set of filler/pocket clip in blue ano so I can see for sure. Not sure when that will happen, but I'm looking around. Thanks for the tip on the screws.

Those blue standoffs look nice. Just for reference if you didn't know, those are aluminum standoffs. Rick Hinderer does not make aluminum standoffs for the XM-18 so they were made by a 3rd party.
The frame looks like it was heat anodized with a torch, that patch of blue adds a nice touch.

I did not know they were aluminum. Thanks for that. Doesn't change anything for me, but at least I won't put my foot in my mouth by calling them titanium.

I like the look as well, but I'm a little distressed that I bought a knife that may not be under warrenty. Poop.

I found a link to titanium standoffs for an xm-18.

Would these titanium standoffs from monkeyedge have been commissioned from RHK?

I also snapped a few photos of my knife while partially disassembled, more for my own curiosity than anything else.

When turned a certain way, the bronze has a slight purple "haze" to it. It's fairly uniform on the ti spacer and also on the lockside, with the exception of the extreme edges of the lockside which have a couple of deep purple blotches. I like the look of them.

Here is a photo of the aluminum blue standoffs next to the bronze anodized set that came with the knife. Based on looks alone, I believe that the bronze set is titanium, comparing them to the linked picture above.

And here they are put back in.

I like the look of the bronze ano on the knife, but I want some blue titanium on there as well....the search continues.
