My birthday is on monday 15th, but today my wife and children really surprised me, even shocked me. My three children came to me with a present and lots of hugs. Since i hadn't really wished for anything i was shocked when i opened the present and there it was, a Fällkniven A1, holy cow what a surprise. While i opened it and carfully exemened every inch of it my wife smiled :)
This is it:

Heavy and wonderfully balanced, awsome to grip and i can't wait to get out to do some cutting and chopping with it. It a bit strange that while this is a Swedish knife, it's cheaper to buy it from the us. About halv price. This one is bought in Sweden though. She said that she wanted me to have something while i wait for my Howling Rat, WHAT a wife!

Swedish company - A1 now made in Japan.

"I got mine before they started doing the convex grind."
They've always been convex to my knowledge, I'd like to see a picture of yours.

I'll see if I can get a pic. I believe they switched to convex shortly after production, but the initial ones (at least mine) has a "normal" edge.

Not a pic of mine, but this pic from the knifecenter shows the grind. You can see that the edge isn't convex.

Yep, happy birthday :) That knife sure looks like a cutter. When you get your Swamp Rat knife in, you should have a show-down between the two

I was skimming through my new copy of Ed Fowlers Knife Talk II before work this morning, and read an article about one of Ed's friends being a knife collector, and his wife forbidding him from having any knives, he had to hide his collection in the trunk of his car. First of all, if the guy is paying the bills, he should be allowed to do what he wants, as long as it isn't affecting her, and she should be allowed to pursue her hobbies as long as it isn't affecting her husband. Second, I have had no complaints about my carrying knives from girlfriends or honeys I've taken home from the club, maybe some gasps and fright from people who are uneducated about knives, but thats it. I am looking forward to purchasing my first house, and if my current girlfriend, who might move in with me, or if I marry her, or someone else, I would make damn sure my shooters and knives stay with me, even if we had kids, I would raise them with respect for these tools. The farmers market vendor that I visit to get my knives has told me some wild stories, and I have seen some wild events too. Men buying knives and running out of his stand, or hiding in his stand, while their significant others walk by. You are a lucky guy, I just wish that people would become more educated about knives, I think about five months on this board would do every person some good! (except the W&C forum :D )

My wife is ticked at me because I taught my kids howto use a fire steel before I tought her. I bought her her very own before them though, that made it better. She is almost as bad as I am in the sporting good section now...
