I just sold some of my knives so I wanted to convert that $ into another knife. It came down to a:

Spyderco ATR
Kershaw Boa
Benchmade Griptialian
William Henry (Kestrel or Lancet)

Even though I would like to have the first three I eliminated them because I already have the large EDC role covered. WH knives have intrigued me ever since looking at all the models at the 2003 Blade show in Atlanta. Plus you can never have too many small sheeple friendly knives.

I started to get the carbon fiber handled one but ended up going with the black palm and mokume T-10. I chose it over the Kestrel because so many here have said the Kestrel is too small.

It is coming from NGK so it should probably be here by Wednesday. There is something about expecting a knife in the mail that is addictive. It's kind of like Christmas morning as a kid.

I actually only had $160 of knife money to spend. But I started thinking of that money as 'free' and that got me thinking, UPGRADE. So as it is I'm spending $120 for a really nice WH. I guess if the better half gets upset with me I can always sell another one off.

You know I didn't have this knife problem before I started hanging around here.

I have a P10 Pearl Lancet, beautiful knife, also very small, it's only .41" bigger.

Still in all they are top notch knives.

Good choice. While I have both Kestrals and Lancets and they're both great knives, you have chosen wisely grasshopper. :D

BTW, this is where you're headed. There's no turning back anymore. BWAAHAAA.

Mark, fine WH collection you've got there. I've got a cf Kestrel that I love dearly and I'm trying to decide on my next model. I'm fairly certain I'll go with the Monarch as I really want another small-ish EDC, this time with the button lock. It's just deciding between Ti handles or another carbon fiber. I *really* like their carbon fiber.

Jon-You're gonna love that lancet-the black palm handle has a very nice grain and the knife just has a great look to it. The fit and finish is top notch! Very light also...Once you buy one, you'll definately want more! Good choice-Tony:cool:

Damn, Mark, that is some collection of WHs. I have a CF T-12 and it is the finest production blade I own.

Thanks for the kind words guys, but my wife should get the credit -- she puts up with this madness!

Dark Nemesis: The third one down is a Kestral in Redwood Burl. I liked it so much that I bought it at a B&M store and paid full retail (bonehead move, but I like the "hands on" approach when picking knives with natural materials like wood).

patrickb: The Monarch looks cool and I almost picked it over the Westcliff, because of the size difference. The button lock is pretty neat too. I like the lanyard on your Kestral -- I should think of doing something like that more often

Dunefan: If you like my meager collection, you should check out Gary Graley's collection. While I think he's sold off a number of them, I know he has picture that shows them all lined up. I'm an amature.:)

Edited for typos

Kimberholic,

You will make the only good decision possible, I hope. Mark and Patrick should be your guides. While all the knives you mention would be considered production, there ARE differences. If any of your choices have ANY chance of being more than an EDC, it would be the WH.

And hey, the WM makes a great EDC. :)

Where can I look to see Gary Graley's collection? I tried to search but here is too much to go through. Thanks.

Who put a Spyderco Native blade on that # 3?

Nearly identical.

Handle a bit fancier though.

common guys, stop posting those pictures!;) I can't stop salivating and I have to wait till next week to get my WH T10BT.

Kimberholic: I looked for it too, but the links have expired. Maybe Gary would be nice enough to send you the picture. I remember it had a whole bunch of Lancets all in the half-closed position on his usual brown corduroy background. Very nice...

Lavan: Wasn't me :D . It's just the regular WH Kestral with redwood burl.

TDE: Sure, use it for whatever you want.

BTW, for those who are curious, the fourth knife down was/is a T10 Monaco. However, I decided I didn't like the black diamond coating on this one and sanded it off . Thankfully it went well and now it has a beautiful shiny mirror finish. I'm not sure I'd take the chance again -- just the heat of the moment (perhaps some alcohol was also involved).

The knife came in today and it is a real beauty. My first impressions were WOW! Pictures are worth a thousand words but actually holding it makes you speechless. If you twisted my arm and made me complain about something it would be the uneven bevel on the edge. But it is not that big of a deal since it is shaving sharp and I can clean it up on my Sharpmaker. I can tell you now that I will have another of these knives. At this time I think I would choose one of the wood handled Monarchs.

Kudos to New Graham for speedy service and very good prices!

Hi Jon,
Congrats on the new WH. After reading your post earlier this week, it prompted me to order another as well :) All that talk of William Henry and seeing Mark J's photos just pushed me over the edge!

I posted some photos earlier today of my new Monarch in CF. I know you ended up with the Lancet and would love to see some photos if possible. Gotta love the William Henry's.

Best,

Patrick

I don't really like the sweeping plunge on the blade of the T10. It takes away from too much blade usage. But they are soo pretty:(

had to do it too. just got a T09-CF Kestrel. Gorgeous, and it feels SO nice in the hand. now, i love sebbies, and the lock on the kestrel isn't quite the same it seems, but seems strong enough as it is for anything i could possibly do with it. fit and finish are very good. mine has a slight burr on the end of the handle where it curves. i will see if it disappears in the next few days. knife is very very sharp, and i love the choil, shich allows almost my whole hand to hold the knife for a super secure grip. the anodizing is very pretty as well. overall, this is one SWEET knife, and i think, all things considere (including the fact that it has a pocket clip) this may mean that my Umfaan (fresh from CRK) may be for sale soon ...

attaboy vactor!

Glad to hear about the Kestrel. I picked one up in December and just days ago I bought the Monarch so the Kestrel wouldn't feel lonely :) Many said the Kestrel was too small, but it meets my needs perfectly. It (and its carbon fiber brethren) are pieces of art, IMHO.
