I'm feeling very stupid this weekend. My sister sent me a $100 Amazon gift certificate, and I wanted to finally invest in a camera. Problem is I wound up ordering it to the wrong address on accident because Amazon keeps your shipping addresses on record.
Really disappointing. They shipped it USPS so it can't be rerouted to another address either, so basically I have to try to sort something out with the post office or wait for it to be returned and a refund processed. Apparently it won't be until after Jan. 4th. Well after all the Christmas deals and saving options are over and when I will no longer be able to afford the camera.
I'm going to go down to the post office tomorrow to see if there's anything I can do, and I thought about maybe writing a letter to the current residents of my old home. I lived there all my life and so the neighbors are still there too to vouch for me.
Big problem is that the shipping address was left over from when I was a minor and was using my mother's credit card, so it's got her name on it too... Worse yet, it says only "Stephanie". I don't know how convincing someone that, "Oh, yeah, I accidentally ordered a camera under my dead mom's name to my old house I haven't lived in for three years," will go over, or if the package will even be delivered with the name addressed like that.
This is just really frustrating and it's pissing me off so much I wish I wouldn't have gotten anything at all. I figure talking to the post office is the only wise option I have left for early intervention, but even then I can't see it working out for myself. I guess I'm just being a pessimistic ass.
Kudos to Amazon though. They've done everything they could to help, and even said that after the 4th if I haven't got the package that they will process a full refund--I doubt that anything will be priced similarly to what I found now at that point though. I suppose I should be happy for that, but I can't stop eating sour grapes about the whole screw up in the first place.
Anyway, something I learned this holiday season
Gift certificates suck
Buying gifts sucks
