I ordered my camera to the wrong address...

I'm feeling very stupid this weekend. My sister sent me a $100 Amazon gift certificate, and I wanted to finally invest in a camera. Problem is I wound up ordering it to the wrong address on accident because Amazon keeps your shipping addresses on record.

Really disappointing. They shipped it USPS so it can't be rerouted to another address either, so basically I have to try to sort something out with the post office or wait for it to be returned and a refund processed. Apparently it won't be until after Jan. 4th. Well after all the Christmas deals and saving options are over and when I will no longer be able to afford the camera.

I'm going to go down to the post office tomorrow to see if there's anything I can do, and I thought about maybe writing a letter to the current residents of my old home. I lived there all my life and so the neighbors are still there too to vouch for me.

Big problem is that the shipping address was left over from when I was a minor and was using my mother's credit card, so it's got her name on it too... Worse yet, it says only "Stephanie". I don't know how convincing someone that, "Oh, yeah, I accidentally ordered a camera under my dead mom's name to my old house I haven't lived in for three years," will go over, or if the package will even be delivered with the name addressed like that.

This is just really frustrating and it's pissing me off so much I wish I wouldn't have gotten anything at all. I figure talking to the post office is the only wise option I have left for early intervention, but even then I can't see it working out for myself. I guess I'm just being a pessimistic ass.

Kudos to Amazon though. They've done everything they could to help, and even said that after the 4th if I haven't got the package that they will process a full refund--I doubt that anything will be priced similarly to what I found now at that point though. I suppose I should be happy for that, but I can't stop eating sour grapes about the whole screw up in the first place.

Anyway, something I learned this holiday season

Gift certificates suck
Buying gifts sucks

KennyB, if Amazon has it on record that it was shipped to the wrong address, won't they honor the price of the one on order now? You should get the name of the person you talked to in C/S & have it noted this was a shipping error, not just a refund on the wrong gift. I have been able to catch packages at the post office before which were marked with our wrong address & marked to be returned to sender & have had them re-delivered to us. Might be worth a try, I would be there first thing Monday morning when they open. Good luck with this.
Be safe.

Yeah, they were definitely aware it was a shipping issue but they said that because of their contract with USPS they couldn't actually have it stopped and rerouted in transit like they could have with UPS. I'm not sure if the original price I paid will be honored ( and with the taxes I barely squeaked by the first time ), that's one of the things I forgot to ask. Should probably call back after I go to the post office and see what they can do because that's also what the cs agent recommended.

Right now I'm just somewhat worried about what strange things will happen with the package since it's in my mother's name, but she's passed away and at the same time it's not even her full name, just the first. I'm not sure if the post office can even do anything but return it to sender, and otherwise I'm not really sure there's anyway to identify myself as the intended recipient or her kin. The package doesn't have a last name, and I don't have a copy of her death certificate or anything...

So yeah, I'm just expecting either A) The package being returned to sender once it gets to my local post office or B) The package being delivered and the current residents ( maybe ) returning it and getting a refund from Amazon, but only after the 4th. I don't think I'm going to be able to get anything done at the post office since there doesn't seem to be a way to really identify myself as having any real rights to it.

Kenny, go by the main Post Office on 3rd & Washington, and explain what happened.

It is possible that they may be able to help you. If not, you can go by your old address, knock on the door, and explain it to them. Have the neighbors vouch for you if necessary.

. . . it must be nice to have a neighbor on here as well . . . :)
Good luck man, hope things work out.
Be safe.
