I have owned Patrick's Roman Riding Sword for about 5 1/2 years and it is an excellent sword at its current price and a steal at the price I paid. But it may well have been the first of his swords in the USA and his prices have gone up as the quality of his work has become more and more appreciated. I have placed an order with him for his replica of the Abingdon Sword, a late Migration Era sword best described for laymen as a "Viking Style" sword. He tells me that the one on the site, priced at 1600EURO is the "cheap" version with a cast and engraved bronze hilt that is electro-plated with silver and then patinated (aged) but with the pattern welded blade as seen in the pictures. It does come with a scabbard at that price. The "expensive" version is like the original with an iron hilt with engaved silver plates applied with niello, a archaic form of enameling, sort of. It is 2000EURO and includes a scabbard. I am ordering the "cheaper" version.
This is very expensive either way, but I have been saving for it for some time and am close to having the money. His waiting list is over two years, which may give you an idea of the demand for his work despite the prices that he charges. Let me just say that I will have the money by the time that my sword is ready and I am now in great anticipation. For pics and other information, please see this page:
