Hello Forum Family,

I want to apologize for being AWOL for a while. I am sure I am late on responding to some emails and PMs and I am very sorry. If you have been waiting for a response from me please re-send.

Early in the morning of November 24 my father's shop building caught on fire. His entire adult life's work went up in smoke. He has been a steel hauling truck driver since he was 18 years old and this building was his area to work on his trucks as well as work on and store all of his farming equipment, and a lifetime of hobbies. We were able to save his semi truck as it was parked next to the building instead of inside. We also saved a skid steer, pontoon boat, and 1 of his tractors as they were in one of the open bays of the building. Everything inside was a complete and total loss. Campers, side-by-side, golf cart, lawn mowers, welders, air compressors, my Mom's Mustang, chain saws, more tools than I could ever begin to count, kayaks, camping gear, hunting equipment, the list goes on and on. We also lost over 220 large round bales of hay which was supposed to feed all our horses for the winter.

I have been helping sort through insurance paperwork and trying to help them dig out of this tragedy as best I can. Unfortunately, that has all kept me away from the shop. If you have tried to contact me via email or PM since November 24 could you please do me a favor and reach out to me again. This has been overwhelming for my parents and I have run myself into the ground trying to help them. I am not complaining or looking for sympathy here. I consider it my duty as their son to do whatever is necessary when needed. Just wanted to explain my absence and apologize if I have missed anything.

Here are a few pics, it was a legit fire that required 7 different fire departments to respond. These brave men and women are truly heroes and as far as I am concerned do not make near enough money for what they do. They fought the flames from about midnight until well past 7am. With all the hay that was in the building we had 3 re-ignitions that required their assistance again over the next few days. There is actually some hay still smoldering today in the pile that used to be a 80x80 building, its been over a week and still some hot spots.

Thank You all for understanding. I swear I am not just ignoring everyone.

Please keep my parents in your prayers as this has devastated them. Almost 40 years of life treasures, memories, and equipment lost in the blink of an eye. And pray for me as I have been tasked with dealing with the insurance stuff. Beyond frustrating at times.

The silver lining in the whole thing is that this has really shown us some amazing people, both friends and strangers who have gone out of their way to help. Thanks to a huge blessing from the local horse community we will have hay for the horses for the winter.

Out of the ashes we will rise stronger than ever.

Garth

Very sad news. Best wishes for the strength for all of you to get through this and for happier times in the very near future.

Sorry to read this Garth, must be awful to go through something as devastating as this. My beat wishes to you and your family, and hope that things are sorted quickly.

If you decide to do any kind of fundraising or relief fund for them please let me know........

Best wishes and prayers from the deep South.

You’re a good son. Hoping for the best out of all the mess.

No apologies needed Sir. Family comes first and foremost.

I'm glad for the blessings of the things that could be saved and lament the loss of so many important family items.

I pray insurance treats your family well and they get you sorted out quickly and help your family brush the ashes from their boots and get back to doing what they love.

Best Wishes,
Jeff

Wow! So sorry to hear about all this! You all are some strong folks. Will be keeping you's in prayer.

All the best,
Eric

Never a need for apologies. I know there’s probably nothing I can do, but if you think of anything..don’t hesitate. Prayers for speedy return to normalcy for your family.

So sorry to hear of this Garth! Prayers for you and your family my friend.

Glad no one was hurt, but I can sympathize with the loss of all that work and memories.

Aloha and blessings to your Ohana.

What a staggering loss. You have all my admiration for the way you have faced this tragedy and shielded your parents from the tedious frustrations of having to deal with the insurance. Don’t forget to take care of yourself—you can’t be at your best for others if you’re running on empty. And don’t worry about us on the forum—anyone who matters here will certainly understand and support your priorities.
Prayers going up for the best possible outcomes going forward, and please let me know if I can help.
All good things, brother—
Will York

Bloody hell bud. Stuff can be replaced, but it's so much more than just some stuff. That's a lot of pain, hope you and your Pops are able to get things together fast and heal a bit as soon as possible.

Wish I could be of more help, but I'm not super familiar with all the insurance related stuff across all the states. But, if they start giving you grief, don't forget you got your state department of insurance that should be able to get ya a fair result.

All the best.

So far the insurance people I have dealt with have been great. It is just a lot to process. The one guy on the phone said it shouldn’t be a big deal just write down everything that was lost. RIGHT like anyone can remember that much stuff over that many years. Then he showed up on site and was a lot more understanding. It’s not that they have been bad at all it’s just so much paperwork to go through. I don’t know if any of you can relate to this but I remember as a child going to little local farm auctions and my dad was the guy buying the misc buckets of nuts and bolts cause somewhere in that bucket might be just the right bolt for what he was doing. And tools, I can’t even begin to fathom how many wrenches he had. I would bet money on over 1000 wrenches. Heck so far just kicking ashes out of the way I think I have found over 20 half inch wrenches and that was only in the first 10 feet from where the door used to be.

Like I said we will get through all this and come out stronger on the other side. Truly will be tempered by fire.

Thank you all for the kind words and prayers. Means more than I could ever convey in words.

Garth
