I'm about to move my phone service from a blackberry to an I-phone. Is the 3GS capability worth an extra $100 on a 16GB phone?

Yes in my opinion. I have had both and like the 3gs better. Also with the 3GS when Att louses it contract the 3GS can be used with outher providers without having to be Jail broken.

I have a 3G and I use to have an original Iphone. I don't know how good the 3Gs is but the 3G is really good. I really use the hell out of it. Lots of apps that I use including ones that get data over the network.

Great tool.

3GS is worth it, and I have a 3G.

2x the processing speed and ram = far more capable in one to two years.

Also, the compass feature is hugely important for GPS apps....Which is a big thing to consider for us EDC'ers.

I changed to a 3gs from a windoz-based "smart"phone about five months ago now and jus couldn't be happier. The enabler for me to switch was the introduction of the landscape keyboard. I do a lot of data work on my phone and have to be able to type. After an adjustment period, I am now faster on my iPhone than ever before thumbtyping. The auto correction thing really sucks; I hope that they'll fix that. But, the aps available for iPhone are amazing. It really is, overall, a very well-done product.

What I tell ANYONE that is considering an iPhone...

If you're willing to pay an additional $30/month for data (meaning on top of/excluding talk, text, etc.), which means $360 a year or $720 for the contract locked 2 years, just for the data plan... does $100 really make that big a difference in your pocket? And then, if you're willing to drop that much money for data, don't you want to get as much bang for your buck as possible?

iPHONEs aren't expensive. Data plans are. If you're willing to go for one, then it's hard to see why not to go all the way.

The iPhone 3GS is blisteringly fast. I have the 1st one (iPhone 2G or "Edge") and now the 3rd one (3GS) and the 3GS blows it away. I am told that the 3G is almost the same speed as the 2G. I would much rather have the 3GS in pocket than an extra $100. IMO you will regret not spending the extra $100.

Like Zero_Time said, I'm paying nearly $100 a month for phone service... what's an extra $100 one time payment?
