I picked this Spyderco up second hand and >>>>

That looks like a model called the "Standard". Very similar to the Delica and Delica 2 (metal handled). I think the Standards blade was a tad thicker.

I would guess thats a pretty old knife, early to mid 80s maybe, since they used the integral clip around then. They are now screwed on. I think the Standard has been off the market for a while now.

Not sure if there is any collector value there or not, but its entirely possible since you just dont see many of the clips like that. And of course the pins holding together are not that visible on newer versions.

Nice find.

Hopefully somebody who knows alot more can give you better info, and correct anything I might be wrong about.

I had one of those (don't remember the name). Loaned it to a friend in a cross-country (L.A. to Savana, GA) bicycle race, but someone on the crew "mis-placed" it. All I remember is that the inside of the clip was really rough and actually cut through the waist band of my suit.

Rycen is correct that it is an Economy, which later became the Standard. Spyderco produced this model in order to compete with the up and coming Spyderco clones produced in the mid-80's. The knife was made with an integral steel clip, unchamfered edges, exposed pins, and a lower end steel to keep prices low. I believe that the original MSRP was around $25 or so. The Spyderco 204 sharpener excells with serrations but if it's just not in the price range, I have used a diamond rod sharpener before. You can pick one up at Walmart for under 8 bucks.

Nice find! Of course, if you want the very best sharpening, you could always send it in to the Spyderco Factory Outlet store for warranty / repair service. I recently had them repair the tip and re-sharpen the serrations on a very old Police model, and they did a truly stellar job!! The blade looked and cut like it was brand new!

The toll free number for the SFO is: 800.828.1925

I believe their business hours are from 10am - 6pm (mountain time) Monday-Saturday. Closed Sunday.

(I was in the store today and they were having problems with their phone system, so if you happen to have trouble getting through, that might be why...)

Don't know about Spyderco refinishing cases (I assume you mean removing scratches, etc?) but you might contact Ron Cochran ( http://www.geocities.com/joyce43_c/RONSKNIFESHOP.html ) I think he advertised on his site that he will do that sort of thing for a very reasonable price. I have heard many people praise his workmanship...

I emailed Ron and look forward to hearing back from him. Any idea what my knife might be worth?? I am not thinking about selling it, but I do not want to spend a bunch of $$ if it is not worth it. Thanks again for your responses.
