I picked up a Shapleigh Boy's Axe and it has a hardened poll.

You can kind of see the line where the poll is hardened. Would there have been a call for a boy's rafting axe? I'm out in the Pacific NW so it would make sense that this would be used in the logging industry. I'm a newb and thought I would see what you all think?

Can't even hazard a guess on this based on my scant historical knowledge. But if it really is hardened (try running a file over poll) then treasure that baby. Or sell it to me.

Council tools miners axe was mentioned on another thread here recently, it was a few years ago avalable with a hardened poll, dayton pattern, 20" straight handle. Sounds like a good fellers axe for pairing with the chainsaw.

That's interesting. Count your blessings. Handy tool. Never seen that on a boys axe.
