As the title says I plan to buy a ZT 0777 sometime within the period in which it is still in active production. I'm interested in finding out from current owners their impressions of the knife and particularly how they rate this knife among others they have owned.

Is the knife better than their previous best or as good as their previous best? If you don't think it's the best then please respond with the name of the knife which is better.

I've liked the looks of the knife and I'm in the process of saving to purchase one.

I'm not an owner, but I've handled a number of 0777s. If it doesn't hurt you to spend the money, I doubt you'd be disappointed the 0777 has better attention to detail and arguably better materials than most of the custom folders I've handled and when sold at retail price costs less than a lot of customs. I can't afford one now and I probably won't ever have the means to spend that much money on a knife, but if I were in a position where money wasn't a concern I'd buy one the first chance I had.

It's discontinued. No rumors, no pixie dust.

There's a variation of it coming out later called 0777M390 that uses a solid M930 steel instead of composite blade.

Thank you for your input. My current and original premise is to find out from current owners their impressions of the knife and particularly how they rate this knife among others they have owned. As that the original model is the only one in the field then that's the only one for which I can get those impressions.

I'm concerned that if this thread strays off the original premise then it will be closed prematurely by the mod.

The only other knife this compares to is the Tilt. It's likely one of the closest knives to perfection that I've ever handled and experienced. Opinions may differ on its visual aesthetic, however functionally it's an absolute win.

Your original premise is fine, however the phrase "in the field" is a bit of a misnomer. It's not exactly what one would consider an available knife, so the longer you spend trying to save up for one, the more you're going to have to save up. The last one I saw publicly for sale broke $1500.

As for its discontinuance, that is indeed true to an extent. The original form of it is no longer being produced and is being made now with a solid M390 blade. That's been confirmed by Kai previously.

If you can get one (and I do wish you luck), I have little doubt that you'll be satisfied with it.

I believe it to be the finest knife ever produced by Kershaw and perhaps the finest production knife I have ever seen. It is absolutely stunning.

Good luck finding one under $1000.00 That being said, of my 150 or so knives, my two ZT0777's would be the very last to go.

They are that nice.

I have one and it's easily my best folder amongst nearly 200. An exquisite piece of aesthetics, technology, form and function. It's a working museum piece. Even with a blade length of 3.75" (the spine is Devin Thomas ”Herringbone” Damascus and the cutting edge is Vanax 35) it weighs only 4.5 ounces. The flipper action is excellent and feels great in my hands. The 3D carbon fiber handles look great and give you assured grips. There are myriad other aesthetic features like the sculpted titanium clip and pivot screw.

I got the 0777.
At first, it is hard to open because I compare it to the Tilt and the 0560.
Then I have to learn how to open it, and now I love it, the best folder that I own.

I don't remember hearing anything about a name change. Did I miss something?

Your dilemma is that the original 0777 is no longer in production and trying to save to purchase one now is like chasing a moving target. The longer it takes you to get one the more it'll cost you.

Exactly. I just got my email from Knife Center telling me I wouldn't be getting the Composite blade from my pre order :(

You need to make sure that you do not put any pressure on the lock bar. Once you learn, they flip out lightning fast and are amazing.

The detent, lock up are perfect.

The 0777 is a great knife, the action is great and feels good in hand. The only thing that was unexpected is how light the knife is. Being so light the flipping action was different than what I had imagined but still very good. But its such a pretty knife....definitely worth getting but the >1000 price point right now is pretty crazy considering the other things you can buy with that. But when you need it you make it happen!

I've held one of these before they are truely sick. Yes, the detent is harder, so when it is released, the blade comes flying out. keep in mind this is not one of those knives you can slowly thumb out, there is no thumb stud. It's a flipper. I don't find this knife anything like the Tilt, that knife is easy to flip out. Got to have at least one of each.

That said, I hope like to to get one of the composite blades also, otherwise I'll have to get another screen name....
LOL
