We have to know the stated capacity, then we can tell you. Is it a 4G, 8G, etc?

Correct. Also, how compressed is the music? 128 Kbps? 256? 320? And what do you mean by a "song"? Roll Over Beethoven? A movement from a Beethoven symphony?

Let's assume you have a 4 GB iPod, the smallest model from that generation, and you are ripping music from your CD collection. Even ripping AIFF which is uncompressed, you can store five or six CDs on that iPod. If you convert the AIFF files to AAC at 256 Kbps, make that 25 or 30 CDs.

I've got the 8 gig model, and I have over 600 tunes in same, along with two books and a whole slew of "aps".... And it's only about 3/4 "full". All the songs are in MP3 format.

Have the 8g one---so far have 24hrs worth of music on it and its only taking up 2g's---mostly my cd's at home that were copied through iTunes.

I have a 3rd generation Nano. It currently has ~3.1 GB of music on it, according to iTunes it is 1.5 days worth of continuous play time.
