:D :D :D They do deserve it though! This is better than college!
I feel very fortunate for all that you guys are teaching me; thanks.

Dan:)

Better yet, what about a $10/month bi-monthly lottery drawing for one
of Uncle Bills khukuri's of choice....
with this many forumites, probably be pretty successful and remaining proceeds could go to the forum.
That would be cool! and Very Exciting!

If we have enough participants, someone might propose a raffle, and we'd have 24 hours to send the $ to Uncle Bill. If not enough of us are interested, it would roll over until a later date. The profit; (after the sword recoups its normally fair price) can be used for helping the kamis or whatever... I bet a lot more of the lurkers, H.I.'s sleeping agents, will be activated for the prizes offered!

I do agree with giving extra coin to Uncle Bill and the Kami's, and the Kami's families, or any one else Uncle Bill feels needs it.

What I dont agree with is a "fee" to use this sight, nor a "lotterie".

Some folks (I am now one of them) just dont have enuf coin to get thru the week, never mind the month. For us it is happy to just own a new un blem Khuk.

I prepos, and will be doing this, just add a 10% "tip" on all of your purchasis from HI.

No agreement or disagreement is needed to understand the essence of something in jest... :) I've heard that there were lotteries conducted in the forum in the past. It's participation presumably is optional...

I like the idea of an ongoing raffle/lottery.

Start a sticky thread (Kami Support Raffle/Lottery).
Let's say an item that usually sells for $150.
Put up a picture.
Accept forty $5 donations until the income is $200.
That's enough to make it worth the effort of Bill & Yangdu.
And a good donation to the kamis.
$5 is low enough that many people could occassionally
make that size donation.
And if someone wanted they could donate more.
Let the raffle continue until the total is met,
then start another.
day week month whatever

Raffle is, I think, a better word to use
for some areas of the US.
(I don't know in other english speaking countries)
Lots of churches & charities have raffles;
people sometimes have a negative sense of 'lottery'.

Guys...have you talked to Uncle Bill about this? There may be reason he can't support it...

Here's where my inherent stinginess shows through.

Having a users fee in my opinion would probably severely limit the number of new users coming onto the site. Having a free site and being connected to bladeforums.com maximizes the number of people looking and browsing through the products.

I've always considered the forum sort of like the roadside assistance package that sometimes comes with a new car. Without it, I probably would only have one khukuri.

Dunno. I'm cheap.

He wouldn't make any money thing mandatory.
Or for that matter, even strongly encouraged.
Beyond that we're just brainstorming.
If he sees anything he likes he'll do what he wants with it.
Requiring a fee to use the website would put HI out of business!

Bruise? You are correct.

I couldn't/wouldn't participate.

I understand the magnanimous impulse and wish to repay...but it might be more well-served by doing it individually as the spirit moves you...rather than having a "Hey Gang ! Let's put on a Show!" movement.

Drdan? Bill has benefits on-going for: a med student from Nepal attending school in Germany, a Nepal Lama, The BirGorkha smithies, and probably other, miscellaneous requests or areas of concern.

Not only that, but he has to deal with the likes of me on an on-going basis.:)

Generous Spirit? I'd like you to meet Generous Spirit.

Nice impulse though.

And if I were ever a Mod, I'd have banned you before you could ban everyone else!
;)

Kismet.......

Who's the little man in the bottom corner of your avatar?

Dean? Dunno. Original art was lost when computer went "pffffft., sizzle."

Maybe Federic Brown? Maybe a character in the novel? This book was on sale on eBay months ago...1950's paperback murder mystery. I fell in love with the title, but didn't buy the book.

The quote by Warren Zevon was coincidental, but seemed appropriate.:)

The "fee" was a joke; sorry if you didn't see that. A lot of the longterm members about the need. I knew that the kamis needed our support above and beyond their wages, and read about a Med student. It's definitely a nice gesture if they receive a token of out appreciation for their skill and hard work. For those that are a bit strapped for cash, their hearts are surely with ours. I certainly didn't intend to cause any controversy... :( If there is a special raffle, it would be fun for us, and help out those in need. Dan
