The very first Kabar knife I bought and field tested was Kabar D2 – Extreme Fighting Knife. Before purchasing it, I spared sometime in rest hours to think about it on the internet in a whole month. The reason for that delay was because I was very satisfied with Kabar USMC knife version. I borrowed one traditional Kabar USMC from a friend, kept it for a few days. I didn’t find a reason why I should pay almost double price for a same design knife. But after making my decision, I found it was very pity for such a long time to worry about its quality. A supper tough knife has a great advantage as you do not have to worry about sharpening it frequently. The blade is also hard enough to resist breaking and you can comfortably use it for hammering. I usually went to survival trips alone for 5 - 6 times a few months after I purchased Kabar D2 for hard testes. In the forest, with this knife I was the king. I could chop down small tree to build a tent, cut hardestbranches to build the fire, used this Kabar D2 to dig into dust to findone for my fishing, and much more… The D2 material is sometimes referred to as semi stainless steel as it is corrosion resistance. This is one of another big plus because in this kind of weather where I’m living, it’s hot and moist in the forest. Here they have a lot of rivers and waterfalls. Survive in this territory means you usually get wet as you across rivers in order to find resources. The semi Stainless steel of the Kabar D2 blade helped me so much. It kept me away from troubles. If you are in the military then this knife is an ideal weapon for self-defense, against both people and wild animals. They said USMC is hard to wrong you know. I personally don’t 100% trust anything until I test it by myself. Unfortunately, I couldn’t find any grizzly bear in here for my Kill-a-Bear knife exercises. As a great fighting knife, I can use Kabar D2 Extreme Fighting Knife for digging holes to build fires and can find numerous other applications in war fields. As one of the best Kabar knives ever, this knife is made with the right length that enables it be adopted for any military cutting needs. It is heavy, strong and always sharp, lasts pretty long.

I chose this knife for my primary tool knife. It becomes one of my best friends in the jungle. It’s reliable, durable, hardcore and fit to my needs. Of course, as other best friends, it’s not perfect. However, I love it. It always has a slot in my survival bag.

You sound like one tough hombre.

Sorry but this is still just an inefficient low sabre flat ground knife with an inefficient deep belly near the tip, topping it off with an off-centered point towards the spine, instead of dropping it nearer the edge, as any real single edge combat knife should...: It can do for utility in non-serious tasks, but it is in no way an optimized design for anything, least of all fighting... Let history rest a bit and get a Recon Scout or something better designed, which is just about everything else intended for the same role...

Interesting.
I somehow comfortable with its design. It fits to me. But as you said: no way an optimized design for anything. No way one size fit all. Thanks for ideas

How's the heat treat on the D2? I've been looking for a general use fixed blade and that looks like it fits a lot of my wants
