I really like my SFNO

I've got a satin SFNO custom shop with the blue/black hand-shaped mags. I can't help but think that if the handles were a bit thinner the knife would end up being a better slicer. I have the option to replace the handles for a small fee. Are there the same smooth blue/black handles in a thinner version, or do the thinner ones all have machined grooves for gripping?

You always have the option to file/sand them down and turn your knife into an awesome user

If you got one of the ones I know, I was told that was a super thick handle, not really meant to be a user if it's the one I'm thinking of. I've never held it before so I can't say. There weren't that many of that one made. I would think it would be much easier to exchange that knife for something you may like better or sell and buy something else that fits better. Because of how many of those were made, I think it should be kept like that but it's your knife. You can do whatever you want with it.

I had one of those. For $65 or so, the Busse custom shop will put any handle on it you want (that they have).

You could always reduce it yourself (use a breathing mask!) and send it in if you don't like the result.

The mag handles on my SFNO don't feel too fat; they feel good. But you're hands aren't the same size and shape as my hands, so that should mean nothing to you. If they're too fat for you, then they're too fat for you – regardless what I say to the contrary. Could you perhaps take these mag handle slabs and sand down the back side of them (i.e., the part that is in contact with metal), to make them less fat, while keeping them otherwise as you like? Or, could you get the custom shop to do that? I would think that should be easily do-able; but I haven't tried, so I can't be sure.

You are not being picky at all. It's your knife, you should be completely satisfied. If you intend to use it, then by all means consider sanding down the grips yourself. Then, if that still doesn't work for you ( you may get down to the tops of teh rivets before you get as thin as you might like ), send it in to Busse.

G10 dust is evil on the lungs. Wear a good particle mask.

If you are not happy with your current handles, send the knife in to Garth for ones you will be happy with. He does such amazing work, I know he will make it exactly like you want it.

I've got a satin SFNO custom shop with the blue/black hand-shaped mags. I find that though I love the look and feel of the knife, the handles feel a bit fat to me. I can't help but think that if the handles were a bit thinner the knife would end up being a more nimble slicer. I have the option to replace the handles for a small fee, but I haven't seen any other handles that I am in love with. Am I being too picky? I pretty much love the knife as it is and wouldn't want to diminish it by being too finicky. Are there the same smooth blue/black handles in a thinner version, or do the thinner ones all have machined grooves for gripping?

I don't think those slabs are extra fat, I think they are just handshaped magnum mags, which are fatter than their machined counterparts. I owned this SFNO, and the slabs were about the same thickness as the ones on my handshaped stabilized wood/G10 SFNOs from the Cupid Ganzaa. They're definitely on the full side, but they feel great in my hand, and since I don't wear gloves and have big hands, I much prefer the thick slabs to the thin ones. The handshaped slabs on the SFNOLE do seem thinner, but I've had plenty of SFNOs with handshaped magnum slabs and most are as thick as the bruiser series that the OP is talking about. I think the idea of sending it to Garth for a sanding down and thickness reduction is a good one if you want to make it a user. Otherwise, I'd leave it as is.

I'd sell that one and pick up a different one. If you want to reduce the handle thickness, I'd take them off the knife and have them ground flatter from the inside surface. No point in ruining the handshaping.

my two cents....I own 20 SFNOs and the handles on the satin with bruiser handle is the thickest of the lot. I have a very small hand so it is thick in my hand but if your a guy who got meathooks you'd love it!!

it is also a true work of art, my suggestion is to keep it as is if you haven't used it yet....save it as a safe queen and pick up a SFNO with standard or machined mags for a user

Bali sold you a beauty of a knife at a steal by the way!! I won't be parting with mine anytime soon...

all the best....J

After some reflection I wouldn't change it at all. MP

After some reflection I wouldn't change it at all. It fits my hand great, it would just be more nimble with a less chunky handle. I still dig it, it is very distinctive and adds variety to my collection, being completely unlike any of the others. You did me a favor by selling it to me, it is the one knife that several others have already shown an interest in. I'll hang onto it for a whlie and keep it original. Where was is originally sold, anyone know?

it was a ganza knife from a couple years ago..it listed for $695 and I'm not sure of numbers but i'm guessing not too m any out there. i know of at least 4 others.
