I've made a couple threads about the clip and the handle length of the Southard.

I think the Southard is 1 of The Best Syyderco's ever made, with a fantastic design by Brad Southard.!!

Now that I've had it for a few weeks, the more I used it the more I like it. It's been a Long time since I've had a knife that I feel this way about.

The knife 'grows' on me the more I use it. Everything about the knife is fantastic, except maybe the clip..... a little mod made the clip much better.IMO:D

The handle length doesn't bother me nearly as much as it did. I'm used to it now and it's fine. I should have used the knife longer before I posted the thread about

the handle length.

Does anyone else really like their Southard a lot ?

Edit: Hey guys, this is a thread to get Positive comments about the Southard.

If you have negetive comments, save them for a different thread.

Thanks

I'm definitely in the minority. It's not that I don't like the Southard, it's just not for me. I do think it is one of the best made knives that Spyderco has ever made. I just don't love the lines. It's also to chunky for EDC for me, I like a slimmer knife. Also, the ergos were strange for me. The severe drop in the handle made it awkward for me. YMMV.

I am loving my Southard! Just to prove my words...I sold my PM2 S35VN after a few days with my Southard. The Southard Flipper is a great tank of a knife!

I didnt like the ergos of the southard either,,,,just didnt feel right in my hand. Was a catch n release.

Not crazy about the lines esthetically. Also wish it was a tad thinner. BUT, love the steel, love the build quality, love the stone washing. Definitely a keeper for me.

It's darn near the same as the custom he made. It's one of my favorite collabs so far.

I absolutely love mine. I dont mind the clip being a slightly different color than the frame. IMHO steel makes a better clip. And I would rather have a well functioning clip than a color matched clip. As for the handle size It always surprises me when people say things like this. The reason being is if you were to increase or decrease the size of any knife will then alienate someone else and gain another. The main point that needs repeating on this issue is that most knives on the production market are all ready a niche item. And to make the knife to cater to larger handed individuals would further send the product down the niche rabbit hole. Some people even seem to not only be wishing it were a different size but almost irritated that the company didnt custom tailor the knife to the shape of their hand. The southard isnt for everyone. To some its too big, and others its too small. Thankfully for me and my goldilocks luck, its just right.

I'll love your Southard for you.:D

Seriously though, I had a few of the Southard's unfortunately I lost a couple of them....only knife I have ever lost and I did it twice. I have another coming soon and can't wait for it too arrive. The Southard stands alone in my opinion amongst other Spyderco knives, I haven't owned a lot maybe 10 or 15 different models but none compare to the quality so far. I agree that the clip could of been done better, but it still goes nicely with the knife. The Taichung factory is just amazing at building a quality knife over and over again.

It is a special knife for sure, one that will cement Spyderco's presence in the flipper market. The Southard rivals some customs I have had and flat blows some out of the water. Every design is always scrutinized by someone for some reason or another, but this one should really be tried before forming an opinion.

Haha, sounds good. Enjoy it.

I completely agree! Whenever I get the Spyderco itch I go to the online catalog and filter by Country of Origin for Taiwan. They are producing insanely high quality production knives for unbelievable prices. It's even more amazing when you look at that line and think about the range of materials, designs, locking mechanisms, etc that they are producing, every one of them top notch in quality.

I do like my Southard. Very solid. Just the right size for a flipper. Great steel. Nice fit and finish.

After reading this I have to check one out for myself, sounds like the ergos work for most and quality is awesome

It was one of those knives that I wasn't sure I was going to keep at first. After a short time however, I love it! Great, great knife.

Just curious, how did you lose two of them? I've heard that they have a tendency to fall out of the pocket and it's freaking me out...

Love mine, love just about everything about it.
Ergo's fit my hands like a glove, flips smooth as butter, great materials, great finishes.
Perfect size for edc.

Only (minor)flaws... clip is not so nice (both in shae and finish), but I remove my clips anyway. It's near impossible for me to use the Spyderhole as opnening method.

The Southard is only my second Spyderco as I was always a Benchmade (less, and less now) and ZT person for folders. My other Spydie is a sprint run Manix II. I am impressed with the build qualities so far, and see why they are sought after knives. I really like the Southard also, and have been carrying a bit in my rotation. It is smaller than some of the other knives I carry, so that is something I am getting used to, however, it is big enough to do the job. I am going to keep mine.

Completely loving mine. Touched up the edge last night on some DMTs and strops and got it TP slicing sharp in no time. Love the knife, love the steel, love the silky action.

This is after dulling out the tip on cardboard and by drilling through half an inch of drywall with it, very impressed with how quickly the edge came back up.

I really don't know, I did it in about a weeks time. I don't know if I wasn't getting it seated properly when I put it in my pocket or what. I know it is getting expensive though. Probably look into one of STR's low rider clips for the next one.

Love mine, but it's a big world and you're totally entitled to your own opinion! :) I bought it sort of as a T&E project and was surprised by how much I liked it - I hadn't really expected to. If it doesn't work, hey, there are LOTS of other great knives out there.
