I really like the BK2 sheath.....

A few weeks ago when I was still researching and deciding on which model was to be my first Becker, I was looking quite hard at the BK2 and the BK7.

The sheath that comes with the BK2 was one of the deciding factors for me. I think it is bloody awesome!

The only thing I will get rid of is the dangle strap, (strangle?) and apparently that can be done quite easily. The next step would be getting hold of a TEKLOK and then mounting that on the sheath. I already have a few other, one or two quite original ideas that I would like to try with the sheath.

The sheath is also the reason why I am for the moment shelving my idea of some custom wood grips for the bk2.

:grumpy: the only damn problem is tht my BK2 is still in Washington somewhere. Thats about 18000 km away!

I love the kydex BK2 sheath. I went with the TekLok also and it's perfect for me. It's very secure, no fiddling with straps or snaps. It rides high and up close on my side and doesn't get hung up getting in and out of the truck, etc.

To me it's the best factory sheath I've seen a knife come with. Far too often (most of the time in my experience), the most awesome knives come with not-so-great sheaths and you have to replace them or make one. The BK2 kydex is great and I like that positive SNAP it gives you when it goes into place. I don't like danglers or low slung knives or holsters. I like them high and close at my side.

You should really check out Warriors link,
His sheath is the coolest stock sheath mod.
out there, it really sets the standard.
Also look at Dereks stock sheath mod.,
the two best ones out there.

I too, really like the BK2 sheath. I modded mine into a drop leg style: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/845352-BK2-Sheath-Mod.-Extremely-Photo-Heavy

That is VERY nice... I like the modular idea and the green really goes very well with the black of the knife.

I was wondering how to get the firesteel on the sheath and the photos really answered my question.

I also really like the idea of the BK2 combined with a smaller knife for the fine work. For this, what are the pros and cons of the BKT11, 13 and 14?

You've a fine taste in sheaths Kolonel. Too many people knock the included sheath, and with a little work it is quite easily a fantastic carry system. Here are some pics of mine:

Depending on your preferences you could also use a piece of nylon webbing folded over with holes melted through as a means of securing your firesteel to the sheath.

(No idea whose picture this is, but full credit to them as it isn't mine)

Combined with a smaller knife such as the BK14 (what I had attached to mine) it becomes very versatile for most situations. The 11 or 13 would fill that role nicely as well.

Here is a thread that shows quite a lot of different mods: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/s...fications-and-Inspirations-Thread-NO-CHATTING!

Couldn't agree more Derek. I feel the stock sheath gets bad feedback, when in reality, in my opinion, it's really nice. Yes, it's stiff to get out at first, and yes it can dull the blade, but that's temporary. Great retention, plus, it just looks good.

I wish they made sheaths like that for all the Becker knives. Something like that with a saber ground BK16 would be the bees knees!

Nothing wrong with it. Other than the loop which I fixed and the fact it takes a full bowl of wheaties and the power of greyskull to get the knife out. Nothing a heat gun can't fix though.

Are all the new sheaths nowadays made without glass?

I am not too worried about the sheath dulling the blade initially since I am sure that the problem will sort itself out over time as the knife cuts a channel in the sheath.

My second question is: what is the difference between the fiberglass reinforced sheaths and the ones without fiberglass in terms of durability?

DerekH,

This is like being a kid again in a toy store - I like everything that I see!

If I remember correctly the container on your sheath is made out of an old computer case?

I might end up stealing this idea with a bit of a modification - I plan on getting the TEKLOK, and with the TEKLOK mounted it seems to me that the best place for the container would be underneath the sheath. At this rate I am going to need an additional factory sheath... Then again - maybe not. It seems to me that most of the mods are add-ons that can be easily removed...

Yeah, the sheaths still have glass in them as far as I can tell. To answer your second question, there shouldn't be any change because like I said they're the same sheaths as always. Some people say the sheaths are now glass-less but I honestly don't see the difference.
