Sorry, there is no knife that will cover it all. I have to have at least 10 knives to make my life work. I have different EDC for different occasions.

When I´m at work I´ll pick a knife that is non-threatening and cheap (so I won´t be sorry if I lose it). I´ll choose between a SAK Soldier, Leatherman e33b or a small S&W SWAT (ok, it´s quite tactical... but very small).

At home I´ll normaly drop a Benchmade Mini Grip in my pocket. Mini Grip 556 or Mini Grip NRA S30V.

Working in the garden, goes fishing or in the woods I´ll take my Benchmade Vex. A very nice allround knife if you ask me. Rock-solid and cheap enough to really use it hard.

If I´m off to a restaurant, cinema or the theatre I´ll pick a SAK with red scales, Nomad or Spartan or something like that. Thoose knifes won´t scare anyone on this planet.

I never advertise that I´m wearing a knife. I rarely (never) use it in public. It just feels good to have it in my pocket. I would only flash it if there was a real emergency.

So what different knifes do you use for your different occasions?

For day-to-day work, home, yard, loafing etc, I usually carry 2 knives on me, a small Rough Rider whittler and a bigger folder with a clip.

For outdoors, I'll switch to a fixed blade or two, but will always keep a small folder or SAK on me.

I have plenty of knives, and I like to rotate my EDCs, but I don't really get "mission specific" since my EDCs are all expected to perform whatever task I may need them for.

A nice folder can definately be enough!!! However I would try to carry a small fixed blade too if possible!!

When it comes to really need, I need a Hunting knife, a boning knife, A Chefs knife and a fillet knife. I EDC a Vic Explorer most of the time.

I could get buy with five if need be. Thank heavens need not be.:D If I could only have one, it would have to be a boning knife with a fair amount of flex.

At work: either CS Recon 1, Hatamoto, Gunsite, ZT 0301, CS Voyager, I carry 2.

At Home: CS Voyager, ZT 0301, carry one.

Going out for something: ZT 0301, Recon 1, Hatamoto, CS Gunsite I carry 2.

In the woods, fishing etc: Busse CG FBM and Recon 1, now it will be my ZT 0301 with the Busse.

Restaurant: Hatamoto or ZT 0301.

I've got all kinds, all production folders, and custom fixed. I normally carry either my micarta Sebs with a Vic blue alox farmer when I am out. At home, I carry my Gossman PSK. Little knife handles everything I throw at it.

Just got a small African blackwood Seb for special carry.

Don't know of I can fill ten spots, but I'll organize 'em by role/function:

EDC - Weekdays: A small Douk-Douk La Sorciere most of the year and an Opinel no.6 in the winter (prefer a wooden handle in the cold!). Bigger than a pen knife but small enough to be discrete.

EDC - Weekends: A large Douk or Opinel no. 8. Since I'm mostly around the home, I can carry something a little larger, which comes in handy for some of those backyard tasks.

Heavy Chopping: I know, I know, an axe or chainsaw is probably better, but I have a lot of fun using my Sgt. Khadka Bonecutter to topple the occasional tree with. A lot less noisy than the chainsaw, and plus, I need all the exercise I can get!

De-limbing/Brush: After the trees come down, I'll usually switch to my Valiant Parang Bandol or SGL to take care of the smaller limbs and branches. Much lighter than the Bonecutter and they just fly through anything 1 1/2" and under.

Pen knives: A tiny old Ranger slipjoint (used to have two blades, one appears to have been snapped off long before I got it) or Victorinox Classic... either of these are a must for the sort of fine detail I sometimes do in my yearly jack o' lantern carvings, if I'm ambitious. Rest of the year, the Ranger gets used to cap the odd stogie now and then.

Home Surgery: If there's a splinter deep under the skin, an ingrown something or other, suspicious bump on the skin, et cetera, my solution is all too often "Slice it!" That's when my antique straight razor comes out.

Kitchen: Need at least one long slicer for the occasions when I'm having dark rye bread sandwiches or other instances where you need that extra length. For the rest of my kitchen chores, almost anything else can be used.

At work: Usually 2, one for hard work, another for use in front of people
LCC D/A, Tyrade, Offset, JYDII SG2 plus A. G. Russell damascus lockback, LeThiers stag, Blue Ti Bump, Kiwi

In the yard: I large folder, and Swiss Tool Usually a BM 730CFHS, or Cold Steel Twistmaster CV Tanto 5"

To Church: 1 of: Blue Ti Bump, AG Damascus, William Henry Gentac, Scarab, Godfather, Kiwi, Paul Chen Citizen, Stinger, LeThiers stag

Home in front of TV: 1 of: BM 42, Scarab, Offset, Tyrade (all fun to play with)

Road trip: Whatever is newest, just to get familiar with it.

Kitchen: Usually the newest, or a passaround, otherwise, LCC D/A, Shun Ken Onion 8" Chef's knife, or Shun Santuko.

My life is pretty simple. Not a lot of real need for knives, but I just love to have them around.

Aparently my use of the term EDC is MUCH MUCH broader than the way you folks use it :D

At work I use a Waved Spyderco Endura. The rest of the time my large Sebenza 21 and a slipjoint do the trick. I used to rotate a lot but the Sebenza is hard to beat.

At work: Endura Wave
Shopping: Endura Wave
In the yard: Byrd Cara Cara or SAK OHT
To family or friends reunion: Delica Wave
Road trip: Endura Wave
Camping: SAK OHT
Dangerous places: Emerson CQC-13

at home: homemade 3.75" fixed blade
out in the field: same above

urbanized area and at work: Gerber Silverknight 2" pearl scale

In summary, I need 2 blades.

  • Work -- I wear a suit and carry a Kershaw Leek, Lone Wolf Paul Presto, or Spyderco T-Mag.
  • Home -- I like something bigger - right now it's a Chris Reeve Umnuzaan or Large Sebenza. It's a Spydeco Military if I'm cooking or grilling.
  • Home Improvement or Yard Work -- A Victorinox One-Handed Trekker or a Wenger Century.
  • Beach, Kayaking, or Waverunner -- Spyderco Atlantic Salt.
  • Volunteering at My Kids School - Wenger Highlander.
  • Hiking - Buck 110 strapped to my Camelback. Maybe a Spydie Paramilitary in my pocket.
  • No Pockets/Workout Shorts - Waved Delica 4 in waistband.
  • Dinner/Movies, etc. -- Custom wood scaled Groove or Green Bump - maybe one of the many others.

At work - Remington Swift-Lokt 2.0 for light duty
At home - Endura 4 CE
For places where weapons can't be brought in - custom knife within a pen a literal "pen knife." :D
for outdoor use - SAK and Benchmade CSK II
Dangerous Places - Jericho 941F w/ frame mounted safety issued to Israeli Special Forces :D

I'm a knife newbie so I've only got around 4 knives as of now. But the knife bug has bitten and hs infected me already. :D
